things to do after high school...

Hey anyone ... im graduating from high school this coming spring and I know their is so much more to do than go directly onto university/college ... I feel pressure because all my friends are so positive thats the way to do things... right from high school go to university then get a job ... i know theirs so much more out there, i need to discover more about the world I just need some ideas on how to pursue that idea. I WANT TO TRAVEL ! but where , how , who with! Guuuh ! Help Plz!

 

You should go to uni/college right out of high school. You can travel once you farther your education, and get a set future. Heck then you should travel all you want. Because if you wait to farher your education, you'll probably never do it.

I dont agree with the above post, perhaps you should travle ASAP, or just take a year off and drift, gather thoughts and decide what truly is right for you. Furthering an education, spending more time in an institution, which isonly educating you for their gain, etc. I believe that travel is such a beautiful thing, i was able to travel to Cambodia earlier this year, if youre interested in travelling to Asia, post me, or just enjoy life, heheh Peace.

 

Your right travelling is great! It's just hard to get back into the swing of things once you've been gone awhile. And you start to forget simple things you've already learned. Asia sounds cool...

 

I dont want to get too far into student loans and stuff ... and have to worry about all of that while travelling , i want to enjoy it to the fullest and with a 30 000 dollar loan and the banks on my ass it just wouldnt be enjoyable? guh... where are some interesting places to consider travelling to? any ideas?

 

ohh asia would be amazing to travel to . where abouts in asia would you like to see?

 

i still dont know. i want to go to places like africa and help the starving kids.. (please don't tell me i can help out in this country, eeee- that is NOT what i want) and like.. i culd get a nursing certificate or something. but then i also want to be an architect.. but travel and live in europe.. *sigh*

nisha i hear you thats exactly what i want to do but all everyone keeps telling me is like ohh no theirs no money in that ... im not in it for the money im in it for the self satisfactory and the fact that i will be helping people ...... i dono ... i dont know how id go about doing something like that? i know their are canada world youth programs where you work some place in canada for 3 monthes then go to a foreign country for another three and work on farms and stuff ... baaah

i know im geting the same thing! how come things cannot be free? aaarghh... if we could just take like 10% of whatever the celebrities made and put it towards funds like.. those people could really get help you know? *sigh*

 

yeah i always wanted to do that myself, i end up doing community college and i am i my second year, im hoping to check out san fran in may and then maybe do some traveling over the summer as well.. its a start

 

i know like on the commericals where all the rich people go to see those starving children to make a commerical , i bet they dont even like give money to those kids ... guh then theirs people who want to help ... i dono ... the canada world youth thing i mentioned is pretty cool im gona apply for that ... and im sure their are other things too to do?? ill have to look into it more ...

 

yeah wow, im in the exact same situation you are, i have no idea what to do, ive considered moving somewhere warm, community college and go into the peace corp and then travel, but i dont know. i want to leave, and go places and be free but then i know im going to end up and i want to end up doing something with myself not just taking up space and dragging down and i dont know exactly how i can do this without compromising my freedom and life while still honestly making somekind of a difference... uhgh i guess somehow im going to have to figure something out, i just hope its right

 

i felt the same way. i knew there was no way i was going straight into college - bleh! so i spent the summer exploring psychedelics and taking road trips. my main summer event was going to burning man. we went from mankato minnesota to oregon to visit a friend in his beautiful town and then to arcata california then to the "BRC" desert playa in nevada for burning man. the whole way we just slept in the cars or at campsites. it all worked out wonderfully. even the delays and car problems worked out and were fun. we had about $700 per car for the whole trip (about $250-$300 per person) and it was pretty comfortable.

it's just that people (nay-saying adults) kept telling me it wasn't going to work very well (wtf) but it can and does and will. ^^

 

hey guys im new to the forum. i was just checkin it out and i saw the original post of luna. i am in the EXACT same boat! like exact. i wanna get out and see all thats out there. i mean even if i end up failing at life (to everyone elses standards) then so be it ya know. i just want to be out there and happy. but im not sure how to come about it. with college...its just too much money and debt. what i wanna learn, i dont need to go to a 4 year university. so if u guys wanna give some in put with me as well that would be nice. my name is Je'Warren.

 

its just so hard because none of my friends feel the same way as i do about any of this stuff, the all want to go straight to university ... bah.

 

i just want to like travel and like experience living off the land for a while , hopefully helping out in some what ... then if it fits go onto university ...
