    Hey guys,

I have been practicing meditation for over 2 years, TM to be exact, its amazing, but because of life events lately i have been under so much stress and my anxiety is through the roof, that when i do settle down to do my TM i cant,.. i have so many thoughts running through my head i cant get the TM to work,

Even though i know you are not supposed to try with TM just do it, i still cant relax for a second my mind is a very creative one and im ive the attention span of a goldfish lol, is there a meditation out there that can complement TM or to help calm my mind aswell as TM.

    Any help would be great

    Cheers

The most basic meditation is mindfulness meditation. Just pay attention to your breathing. Watch your breath going in and out. If thoughts come up, watch them arise and then let go of them and go back to watching your breath. The idea is not to stop thinking but to start being aware.

Being aware of my steps, my thoughts, my words... all day long, as often as I can. This is my non stop meditation.

I found starting the mantra and watching breath is a good combination.
How did ya learn about TM? I read about it from a pamplet or book in rehab. The first time. lol
I was amazed when it worked. Puts me like in a dream state.

Lately I have been allowing stress to fuck with me-Here's a couple of items I have tried:

-Try the serenity prayer-with or without the word god in it-most items that are bothering me cannot be changed

-I look at a person, place, situation that is bothering me-will it still be important in 10 years-if the answer is yes-I change how I deal with it-other wise I wash my hands of it.

My stress is based on my decisions

    Golf.

No joke, I'm dead fucking serious dude.

The intent and mind/body discipline necessary to hit a good golf shot is exactly the same intent and discipline needed for efficient TM...

Once you have acquired the proper technique, intend your goal, forget yourself and "just do it".

Your actual score is meaningless, it's all about the moment.

With TM, it's just a longer moment!

The same thing happened to me. Life got stressful and I couldn't clear my thoughts anymore. I finally got my mind clear, but it took hours of on and off meditation.

You could try japa meditation. There's a book called Getting in the Gap that has a meditation focusing on words of the Lord's prayer. It's what I've been using for the past 7 years or so.

Absolutely! The Relaxation Response has worked for me.

My meditation teacher did offer one suggestion that is not listed in the link.
If you are having trouble relaxing your muscles, deliberately tense one area, your forearm for instance, hold for a few seconds and then you should be able to relax that area.

As for clearing your mind, that page gives some good suggestions. They prefer repeating a meaningless sound, but repeating a number or saying a color like "green" works better for me. As long as it doesn't start leading you off into word associations, you should be fine.

Some people benefit from "white noise" or a recording of the sound of rain to wash out the sounds of the outside world.

I picked out a quiet room and almost never go there for anything else but meditation. This trains me to start entering a meditative state before I even get settled in well.

    Cool, yeah...
I make my own white noise with a software DXI synthesizer.
It gives me the ability to tweak it a bit when I'm in the mood to make "pink noise"...
    the difference is pretty technical, but generally speaking;

White noise= rain shower or TV on a blank channel
    Pink noise= waterfall or (w/modulated resonance)heavy surf

I use it mainly for sleeping in a noisy environment, probably good for meditation too.:)

Or just play the rainy part of the song "https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5qRJIBtbc2c"]Riders on the Storm" by Jim Morrison and the Doors! (sorry about the commercial but then it goes right to the rain).
And you might not want to stick around for the lyrics about a killer on the road.

Better get you some white noise or you'll have freakin' nightmares from the spooky part of that song.
