Well not thinking about it, I know want dreads now that I dedicated myself to Jah and the “practice” of rastafari, but my hair is shoulder length(I’m a white 15 yr old female)and it’s pretty damaged, in some places only though, pretty weird and also has a LOT of layers If I were to begin dreading my hair at shoulder length w/ layers, how would it end up being, b/c I know dreads shrink a bit?. Um, do dreads look funny when layered?? Should I just wait till my hair grows out?? I don’t care about what people say or anything, but I also don’t want to look like a fool. Advice anyone, please. And I'm not looking for any judgement just some helpful answers please. Also, my hair is naturally puffy and someone curly more of a wavy, should I flat iron it before dreading? Would it help? Or does it not matter? I know it a lot, but thanks <3 LOVE

Early in the history of the movement, Leonard Howell gave the Rastafarians six principles. "(1) hatred for the White race; (2) the complete superiority of the Black race; (3) revenge on Whites for their wickedness; (4) the negation, persecution, and humiliation of the government and legal bodies of Jamaica; (5) preparation to go back to Africa; and (6) acknowledging Emperor Haile Selassie as the Supreme Being and only ruler of Black people" (The Rastafarians, p. 85). As Barrett notes, "This first glimpse of the new doctrine that launched the Rastafarian movement has not changed significantly over the years" (Ibid). Note the first and third principle. Oh and the Second.
