So here's my story: I just turned 16. I feel like I'm ready to leave school because I'm not learning anything, I'm failing because I have no interest, everyone there hates me, which Is fine with me. But I have bad issues with handling stupidity and I'm surrounded by it everyday. Not to mention the school I go to is very strict, so I don't have a lot of ways to fully express the true me. I feel trapped. I want to quit so I can start working, get my GED, and begin making documentaries which is what I chose to be my career. My mom is trying every single way to convince me to stay in school, while my dad is cussing me out and making me feel like shit. What should I do? .-. I'm ready to begin my life, not sit in a desk all day. That's not me.
What you can learn in school you can learn at home on the Internet and it's probably more accurate. I was the same when I was at school too, achieved in classes I was interested in and didn't do as good with classes I wasn't. I just made an effort so I could get into uni. I made too much of an effort and was already two years learned in the courses I was going for some I only needed 1 year and was thrown in the 3rd year classes. Like someone else said though, won't you need some certificate to get into filming? I don't imagine a random person with no education on the matter getting a shot before those who have studied for it?
you will not feel the same after you graduate..and you certainly will NEVER have a career unless you stick it out...its less than what? a thousand school days till grad?..if you are 16 its closer to 650 days suck it up
You don't know me, so you really can't tell me how I'm going to feel. :\ "Never have a career"? There are tons of actors, authors, artists, and musicians who dropped out and now are making millions. So......yeah. It's very possible.
band for every one of them, there are thousands working dead end jobs and wishing they had stayed in school
I only wish I could go back & be 16 in school,I would have studied harder and pursued a career in the arts at the school of Visual Arts... Try to stay in and make it, The years go fast!!! wish you the best
I feel the exact same way as you, so much pressure from parents about school, but I find our school system does not teach us the right things, and jsut teaches whatever helps the system thrive. Unfortunately, this is not the sixties. There's less places to runaway to, hitchhiking is pretty deadly now, and everyone is competeing for jobs. We don't have too many options other than stick it out with a positive attitude. I try to think about how many children in the poorer parts of Africa would do anything to be educated in a school like ours.
stay in school. or move to another school with part porgramom (only 3 years and if you want to continue you have + 2 more years and you have same education as if you were in an normal high schools, so after words you can go to any school you want or you can get employed as well. Anyway just stay in school and dont listen to your father prove him wrong !
When my boyfriend was 16 he dropped out and got his GED, then went straight to culinary school. Hes an amazing chef now! Anyway, Just if that is the path you want for your life, make sure you have the means of making it happen and your goals straight. Its so easy to get distracted in life.
While there is a possibility that you could make it without a formal education the chance of you making it with one are far better. For every person who is self made or lucky enough to get that break needed there are far more who do not. At 16 time seems to take so long to pass and it seems as if the end of the tunnel is so far away. If you walk toward that time line it will fall away under your feet far faster than you imagine. If you can find a way to stay and finish your education and then make a move and establish yourself you stand a far greater chance of achieving what you wish. I hope you find a way to finish your education and succeed in the career you desire.
I'd say stay in school. I'm 17 so I'm still in school and I absolutely hate it, but I'm going to stick the rest out because I know it'll be worth it in the end. In the end do what ever you think is right. Also your mom is doing her job and trying to help you make the right decisions. Your dad..... Well he sounds like an asshole
Your 16-a few more years and your done and out the door-it may not seem like it today but that certificate will become priceless. Any chance you can homeschool it either old school or on-line and get it done at your pace without dealing with the idiots at your school. and take Math 30, or whatever its called in your area, mandatory if you find yourself in documentary school. Sure it s all bullshit, but certificates tell people who area hireing you that you have the skill t do the task. I'm an old guy and have a 50 year old friend who is having to go back to get his high school equivalent as he just took his Mold remediation course and can't get his certificate unless he has his grade 12. Its a matter of putting food on the table for him
