I'm three weeks without a brush and now my head itches.
I've used T-gel a number of times on my scalp but seems like every time I scratch I have white junk under my nails. It's not skin, so I was thinking it's residue. I also use Dr. Bronners peppermint soap, but it never touches my scalp. How do I solve this before it gets too bad? Also is it residue or what?

Okay. That sucks. T-gel was kinda pricey. All well.

So are you implying that T-Gel isn't the problem?
I only ask because I just started using it.
Ill buy Dr. B's if T-Gel is going to cause problems.

    Sry to thread jack.

My question exactly. I wouldn't use T-gel everytime you wash, fyi.

    T-gel doesn't cause residue.
    Perhaps you have 'wet dandruff'

You're just starting out. You're going to have some scalp transition going on.
How often are you washing? That could be another problem.

i doubt t-gel is causing it.
and i use t-gel without problems. but like i said, and i think others would agree, the white buildup will chill out after a month or two.

Ah, okay. I used to have dreads for about 8 months. Had this problem throughout the whole time.
I wash about every other day.

T-gel should not be used every other day. Once a week like the instructions on the bottle say.

Is there a reason you wash so often?

I'm planing on washing with T-Gel Friday and Tuesday.
Would it be a good idea to wash with T-Gel on fri and like acv or baking soda on tues?
What do you all recommend? I don't want my first set to turn me off of dreads.
I think gnar dandruff or dome goo would do it.

I hope my questions are helping the OP. I don't mean to impose.

No i don't use t-gel every other day. I use it when my head gets most itchy, like maybe once a week at the most. Other times I use Dr. Bronner's.
It's because my hair looks like a disaster in the morning and I hate going to class like that, so I at least hop in the shower and do a water wash.

Do you ever get in a hurry while washing with Dr. B's? Ive read that if you don't rinse properly or don't dilute enough it can cause build up. Its about the only problem I've heard about It. Ive read to dilute it 12:01.

why would you decided to cultivate dreadlocks if you were not ok with your head looking like a disaster for a good long while?

There's a difference. I'm ok with it being messy but I'd like to make it look as good as possible while not using wax or some sht. I hate trolls.

    That ain't trolling. It's a valid question.

I'd do a real good AC soak. Massage the crap out of your scalp with the AC on. Do not use your finger nails on your scalp, if you have 'wet' dandruff especially, this will make things worse.

Blow dry your roots on low setting. The yeasty-fungi that can cause dandruff thrives in moist environments. The more you can lessen that, the better.

If you don't have sensitive skin, you could be as bold as I was and massage straight tea-tree oil into your scalp the day before you wash.

The best thing that turned me from a dandruffy person to having the healthiest scalp I've ever had was slowly adjusting my hair washing to at least a 5 day cycle. Yes, this can take awhile. Yes, it will seem like things are getting worse before they get better(like trying to rid acne). And perhaps this will leave you wanting aesthetically for a while but the pay off is a healthy scalp and it's more than worth it.

Alright thanks! I will definitely try to go to a longer wash period.
Since I do about every other day should I go to once every 3 days or so for a while?
