my favorite memories have nothing to do with changing my life, forever nor otherwise. they are living in the company houses at norden california on the top of donner summit. where they were all connected togather by wooden hallways called snow sheds, because 20 feet on the ground was not unusual, nor 200 foot drifts and 8 feet of new snow in 8 hours on the 2nd of june unheard of. witnessed the latter myself, and the avalanch that stranded passenger train 101 for almost an entire week in 1951 is a well documented incident. other favorite memories are of long walks in the woods by myself, and finding magical places to meditate, that indigenous people living there for thousands of years most likely found and felt the same way about. my memories tend not to be of incidents but of contexts and places. not that there haven't been occasions too. mostly involving non-humans.
1 memory, Alone in Kola Peninsula at the Khibiny Summit, 2006. Here it is how it does appear: 2, walking alone in Chernobyl Zone, 2008.
A trip I took to a nice private beach with my cousin and my grandma when I was 10. Have always wanted to go back there but have no access to it anymore
One of my favorite memories is when I was four or five years old I would always wonder off next door to a older ladies house, she had to sixty plus. Her name was Emma and I would try to go over there every day and have lunch with her. She had the best mashed potatoes ever. My Mom finally gave up and allowed me to eat with her. This was a long time ago when you could trust you neighbors and you played outside until the sun went down. Now that I think back I spent a lot of time with different neighbors as I was growing up.
When my baby nephew was born and I held him for the first time, the cutest most amazing bundle of joy ever! He looked right into my eyes and eyes were locked for a good few minutes! He saved my life, made our family <3 LOVE HIM. This has to be the best memory ever
riding trains with my dad on his pass, and hanging out down at the depot where he worked (as telegrapher/towerman/clerk. os'ing trains, copying train orders off the dispatchers line, selling tickets and freight service, and general communications hub for everyone else working for it in the area) railway children i was one, on our hill, the sacramento devision of the southern pacific railroad, as it was at that time, over donner summit, in the sierras in northern california.
It has to be the first time I ran 400m in under a minute. I'd been chasing it down all summer and never quite managing it ... until the final club athletics match of the year, which was also our home fixture, when I finally ran 59.1 I was elated ... and totally exhausted! I just lay there on a bench in the clubhouse, with this goofy grin on my face, for like ages ....
