Is that so many of us old buggers have forgotten what it was like to be youthful. I spent today with some seniors, like way older than even me. I am amazed at how many of those lovely old farts have forgotten what it is like to be young. No wonder they feel that there is a generation gap. The most shocking part was their insistence that the lack of respect is this younger generations. I wish that I had of been able to record the conversation and play it back so that they might just hear the respect that they are not giving. It was a surreal day.
i think now just thinking, as we get older and have been through more things we feel we deserve more respect , for the things we have done.worked hard for. been through, etc. also losing freinds along the way, makes us bitter and less respectful to those that hav,et felt what we have. and the younger people just wanna see how far they can push the bounaries of child abuse.
I try to respect everyone, but I don't really respect someone for not dying. I mean it's sort of a success if they're REALLY old. Like 112. That I respect. But 75? Go to hell gramps.
This is my life. EVERY SINGLE DAY. Day in, day out. Our biggest customer base is elderly people and some are super sweet, but more often than not, they are bitter people who feel self-entitled to free stuff and discounts and it just drives me insane. Sundays are the worst, they seem to be feeling particularly self-righteous right after church lets out.
A lot of people just can't leave their own shoes. This has always been a major source of conflict between youth and adults. *plays Wasn't It a Bit Like Now? (Parallel 23) by The Association* (YouTube didn't have )
The problem is everything is too accepted nowadays. There's no honor in anything. Being honorable makes you a bigot or judgmental. Everyone can do anything and you're wrong if you think it's bad or don't agree. Equality and acceptance.
I'd argue that the problem is what is accepted (and what isn't). You said it yourself; often, things like honor aren't acceptable; respect isn't cool unless you're ass-kissing a trending celeb (politicians included). Life is a sea of regulations and red tape, and we accept this; but all these rules take away the human judgment, adaptability that's helped us to excel; and only make the world a cruel, cold place for humans to live. Robots in a mechanic world. Being intelligent is quite often frowned upon; morons like Michael Bay and James Cameron are accepted as our creative geniuses. Psychoactive medicines out the ass, for an ever-growing list of conditions, even acceptable to give to children; marijuana is the number one reason Americans get put behind bars. Hell; it's frowned upon to try to do anything about all this bullshit.
So let the children play Inside your heart always And death you will defy For your youth will never die - Creed, Never Die
the problem with/of/for youth, since the dawn of time, is that in order for the species to advance, they must advance beyond their elders, who's egos sometimes get in the way. (there are, of course, cultural factors involved as well)
You know, parents are the same, no matter time nor place They don't understand that us kids are gonna make some mistakes So tell you other kids all across the land There's no need to argue, parents just don't understand

I think the irony of it all just struck me that day. If you want respect you must show respect. If you want tolerance then you must grant it. If you wish to be heard you must be able to listen. That so many of them had such a negative view saddened me as they also have such knowledge to pass on and it is a wasted opportunity for not only them but also those who would like to listen. Life is too short for negativity.
The kids are nothing more than a product of the society in which they were raised….. Cell Phones, Fast Food, The Iraq and Afghan wars, Housing Crisis, College and Consumer Debt, The Patriot Act, and the Pharmaceutical companies have the majority of pediatricians in their back-pockets so they prescribe unnecessary medication H
I love old people and I've never met an old person that didn't love my youth and vitality. I used to visit my grandmother at her retirement home and I would constantly get stopped in the hallway with greetings like, "oh, its so nice to see a young face in here." Maybe old people don't like all young people, but they freakin love me and I love them. We're homies, me and the elderly population.
