This is a bit of an old thread to get ressurected - One thing that might be taken into account with the Gita is it's actual context as part of the Mahabharat. Anyone familiar with the story related in Mahabharat might well see Duryodhana, Dushashan, Shakhuni etc as bit like NAZIs. Since Krishna is telling Arjuna that these people must be defeated at all costs, it tends to negate the idea that Himmler etc had any even slight understanding of the Gita.
It's embarrassing to see you resurrect my samples of ignorance that I have over years strewn all over the Internet. A minefield of embarrassment I have laid over the years.
No need for embarrasment. This is a world of the ignorance and we're all struggling towards the light. God knows, I've certainly gone off on some stupid tangents at times. It's good anyway to look at questions from different angles.
I am a young woman with Jewish background, and I believe I can safely say that the Gita had NOTHING to do with the Holocaust. I do not believe that the Gita inspired it, nor did the Gita instruct how it should be done. We all know that Hitler and the SS were obsessed with Hinduism and all things Vedic. From their adopted symbol (the svastika) to the very name they called themselves (Aryans)...so it is easy to see that Hitler and the SS had a deep respect and admiration for Hinduism, especially occult Buddhism and Hinduism...but this doesnt mean that the Gita inspired or was the blue print for the Holocaust. That is foul, and, as a Jew...I find it quite...offensive and sad that people feel the need to attach unneeded things to that period in history. It happened due to fear and hate. Period.
See, Himmler and Hitler were basically confused dudes, trying to create some substance for their demented and superficial ideology of racial supremacy, which they believed in to compensate for their feelings of insecurity and satisfy their urge for identification with some lofty purpose, no matter how idiotic it may be in order to reinforce their fragile sense of self. And for that purpose they tried to bring bhagavad gita and other elements into nazism , though the theme of the bhagavad gita is that of soul-consciousness, which is vastly different from the theme of nazism , which is identification with body consciousness. Krishna said to the demoralised Arjuna that his relatives and friends and own guru , whom he were fighting against in this war , were actually souls in bodies, and thus only the body dies with the soul taking birth in other bodies as per their karmas. The whole focus was on the soul, and not on the body. The greatest importance was given to the evolution of the soul, and how even the battlefield can be used as a means for furthering the evolution of the soul, through properly focussing on one's duty in a state of awareness that comes from renunciation of results to the Divine. Hitler and Himmler's focus was on racial purity , which is body-centric, and which is a far cry from the soul-centric message of the Gita. Body identification is a sin as per Hinduism, as it is considered as the source of all evils, and soul identification is a virtue . Quite contrary to hitler\himmlers ideology, and there is no mention of the soul or reincarnation in nazism. If himmler believed in the Gita, then he would have accepted Krishna's important teaching of reincarnation which Krishna emphasizes repeatedly ,and would have used his common sense to understand that he himself can be born as a jew in his next life, and so too with Hitler and the other Nazi stooges. In fact this is a central theme in teachings of reincarnation that u become in your next life what u love or hate most in this life, as it has the strongest impression in your subconscious mind, which guides u to the body of your next life. Interestingly, in one of Dr.Brian Weiss's books on reincarnation, ( that of accounts of his patients past life insights during hypnosis ) , he found that a Jewess who complained to him a lot about the arabs animosity against the Jews , happened to be a Nazi man in her past life during hypnosis. This is just a sample of the games human kind play with each other in their deep state of unconsciousness. Just accept Krishna's teaching of the soul, yoga, awareness/mindfulness and the rig vedic dictum that the whole world is one family which is just an another way of saying we are all brothers and sisters regardless of race or religion or nationality or other boundaries (hope u get my point),and u will be fine. p.s : Also some compassion for hitler and himmler and their cronies who were also our soul brothers and were mislead by ignorance and grave idiocy due to lack of wisdom . And more strength to institutions like the hip forums which promote wisdom and love in this world and preventing future hitlers and himmlers from taking birth.:2thumbsup:
I dont know if anyone touched on this, but the holocaust, while inflicted upon Jewish people...wasnt Jewish. Many people were hurt, not just Jews.
That's true, but the majority were Jews. I think one has to look here at European history, and the history of Christianity. All through it, from the early middle ages onward there was a pronounced strand of anti-semitism. This came to a head with Hitler and his pals. Obviously, ther were other groups they didn't like - Gipsys, Homosexuals, Communists and so on. But let's not diminish the crime of attempted genocide against the Jewish people. I personally feel that the NAZIs were the single worst lot we ever had. Utterly evil beings, possibly demons even.Sri Aurobindo and diversely, Norman Mailer evidently shared my opinion. What is worrying today is the seeming spread of a kind of new anti-semitism amoung young people in europe. Just yesterday my own nephew was expressing anti-jewish opinions - not based on thinking, but purely on bullshit he's either seen or read, and what is considered 'hip' in some very fucked -up circles. Also there was a recnt case were some idiot brit fashion designer in Paris got drunk and had an anti-semitic rave for which he got taken to court and lost his job. Rightly so IMHO.
