Hey guys, just a random question. I know obviously there are those with the hippie mentality, like the wonderful people on here, but I was wondering if the places on the list of Hippie Havens is true. I can't picture a large group of hippies I guess, but it'd be so awesome to hear about. I live in Toledo, Ohio and it can be quite lonely when everyone brags about fighting and hatred. I just need to know if there are places to live with open minded, loving people. Thanks :)

True, you'll either find hippies, hipsters, or redneck types :)

I'm afraid that; certainly around my neck of the woods, the only Hippie Haven is within my own head :(
Still, there is hope - there is always hope :)

ohio's great. toledo is one of the worst places in america.

i don't know about "hippie havens," and by the time you're old enough to move out you probably will be over the whole hippie thing anyway, but pretty much everywhere is better than where you are now.

ps: you should probably not trywalkingbarefoot there. broken glass and discarded needles everywhere.

pss: you would probably like ann arbor.

Your describing utopianism. About as close as you will find this, on the planet, may be Tibet. These days I would venture All of the Hippy enclaves have come to understand The goal is unattainable for any group or culture. The trick is for the group to at least stay within the boundaries of what constitutes Utopian values and at the same time be aware that this is a material country we live in, these lofty ideals will not be supported nor the righteous individuals who hold them in their hearts.

Your answer gives me hope, if Toledo is one of the worst places to be, then life for me can only get better once I leave :) I have many callouses, and I'll admit it can be pretty stupid to walk barefoot here, but I haven't gotten seriously hurt and feeling the earth while I can is worth it.
&& When I'm older I may not dress as crazily or be as naive, but I hope that I will still hold the hippie mindset of peace and love.

You got a great soul kid. I hope you find all kind of avenues to pursue in your quest for someplace that is "right". As many here said the haven is within you but it sure is nice have people around you to share that spirit with.

In your search you will be well advised to look beyond the boundaries of the USA. This country appears headed for lots of turmoil. I think those who have a warrior spirit will find a lot of satisfaction here. Those who are in search of tranquility will be challenged greatly I fear.

Thank you for your kind, sincere words. Just knowing that there are people like you gives me much hope and inspiration. I'm not sure how I'll be able to, but it is my dream to travel to India, and see that my little world is not even a speck in all that there truly is.

in the eye of the beholder and depending on how one defines their terms.

there are probably still people who go in together on a piece of land on which to kick back and mellow out.
