alright, so i have anxiety/depression. ive had it for years, and ive been prescribed different medicines at times, but none of them ever worked for me, or had side effects i hated. i started taking sertraline when i was in 10th grade, and instead of getting rid of my depression, it made me feel completely emotionless altogether, like a robot or something. so i stopped taking it. then about a year or less ago i was prescribed citalopram, but it also had tons of shitty side effects that made the medicine not even worth it, along with barely helping me at all.

i have taken kpins before and xanax, obv recreationally, and they have actually worked for me. its the only thing besides pot ive ever taken that actually helps me with my anxiety. i just moved recently and tomorrow i plan on going to a doctor or psycologist or whateverr.

now, because of my anxiety, im worried that if i go to the doctor and tell him that i need medicine and those two are the only two that have ever worked for me, that he will think its sketchy, and prescribe me something else. but i really dont want to have to go through another bullshit medicine that doesnt help me :/ im sick of having panic attacks and being unsocial because i get all nervous and such. can you guys help me out? any ideas on what i should do or say to help my situation? thank you.

anyone have any ideas on what i should say or anything?

well, depending on the doctor, he/she will most likely not prescribe you ANY benzo, even like .5's unless you go in there like literally freaking out lol.

Or you could be straight up honest with them and tell them your experiences and see if they will prescribe maybe .25mg xanax or something. but that could bite you in the ass b/c many docs don't like to write scripts for drugs with "addictive" potential. One thing is for sure, DO NOT mention ANY experience with pot, if they know youve smoked, you will never get a benzo. also if they try to put you on anti-depressants, get up and leave...fast.

Yeah. Go to a real psychiatrist. They are more likely to give out benzos. After I had the routine 'failed SSRI' route for anxiety, he went right for the Klonopin (a benzo) and he upped the dose insanely high (at once I was on 4mg per day!)

My doctor gives me 60 x 1mg ativan/month and just trusts that I'll use them responsibly. I guess I'm lucky.

I'm prescribed 8mg of xanax per day. I have legitimate anxiety issues though, and I was very convincing in describing my symptoms.

I'm sorry to hear you have to deal with panic attacks man, i have suffered panic attacks for years so i know what your going through, many occasions i've been convinced to the core i'm going to die any minute now when im at the peak of a panic attack, in these such circumstances a small dose of a benzo is invaluble, however i would stress that benzos should only be used as releif when the going gets tough and shouldnt be used as a preventative measure to be used every day.

benzos can actually cause rebound anxiety on discontinued scripts if used over periods of time regularly even as little as a week and in my circumstances make things worse tbh, a benzo is just getting rid of the symptom its not fighting the route cause which usually needs some quality psycho therapy, cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT,) counselling, anxiety management whatever works best for you.

There will never be a pill to cure anxiety i'm sorry to say mate, a takes a pro-active aproach in your recovery and it's hard work. I really discourage the use of benzos, meybe with the exception of extreme anxiety/panic attacks as a short term releif though i do accept it can be terrifying mate but theres so much more less harmfull ways to improve our levels of anxiety and the way we view stressors that trigger our fight or flight response, a wish you all the best in your recovery man and remember anxiety can be conquered, its a challenge but you can do it ;)

i used to not have health insurance, and pot was the only thing that really helped me when i was freaking out. should i not mention that then? it is the truth though. honestly, if i got a script for this, i dont think id even smoke pot anymore. and i think id be able to actually set out and become someone important someday. i always want to better myself, but all this anxiety holds me back veryyy much

also, i would like to add that i currently dont have a doctor, because where i used to live i didnt have health insurance, so i never pursued one. however, because of the state i live in now, i have it. idk, just figured that should be mentioned.

Well, at least Xanax is very cheap, so even without insurance, it would only cost like $10-$15 for a month's worth of the drug. So you would have to pay to see the doctor, but you would probably only have to see him/her once every couple of months. Good luck.

I would just be completely honest with the doctor. They are understanding. Only a few of them are assholes like people like to convey. They know that people take other people's drugs. Let me tell you a story.

I was on Concerta 54mg capsules for treatment-resistant depression (it is Methylphendiate ie Extended Release Ritalin- an amphetamine-like stimulant). I have a friend who exhibited extreme ADHD symptoms, so I gave him one tablet to let him see if it helped him. It did. A lot. So he frankly told his doctor that he was given a tablet and it worked well. The doctor understood and gave him a script for Concerta (albeit a lesser dose than mine).
