Is Amethyst Gemstone is good substitute for Blue Sapphire?

My friend has been advised by his Astrologer to wear Amethyst Gemstone in Gold ring in middle finger to make Shani strong bcos Blue Sapphire will be too costly.He also advised him to chant to Budd Mantra instead of buying Emerald.Again bcos of cost.

Please advise Amethyst Gemstone is good substitute for Blue Sapphire and Budd Mantra for Emerald.
