I don't know how many newbies from around the Ozarks region this might catch, but I came across a website that I highly suggest to new folks. Basically, it gets into a long drawn out history of local politics, but it boils down to the fact that most info available online about local gatherings is put out there by a group that many local folks view as shady at best. If Peace Conspiracy are a cult, they aren't doing a very good job. I met Mama Wanda at the Ozark gathering last May. She made a tasy soup and spent a couple days. If anyone was trying to take over rainbow at that gathering they did a mighty shitty job. Local family stayed in the background, and it was us road-dogs who cooked most of the time(OZ kitchen too), and argued until the first day of the gathering where to put main circle because the scouts hadn't arrived yet. Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed the role I took there. We had fun and learned a lot trying to focalize a gathering, but there certainly wasn't anyone there trying to 'take over'.

Wow, this is an interesting topic. How does one tell what's truth here? I've been to the various web-sites, with no conclusive proof. So here's what I think I'll do. Next time I'm in the Ozarks and I hear there's a Rainbow gathering, and someone asks for an admission fee I just won't go in. And if i dont have to pay and I go in and someone tries to take over the gathering, that'll be fine, cause I cooked three meals a day at the last Ozark and I'd like to bliss out next time.
The website is one big angry rant with plenty of accusations, mainly centred around duplication of websites. wasn't welcomehome.org dormant when welcomehere came along? I believe Rob stopped updating the calender several months earlier. My take on it is, no one has authority of the tribe, if you want to start a website, go ahead. If you fill a need that no on else is meeting, all the better. I found directions to the Ozark gathering on that site, and nobody asked me for money there. I have found no listings for paid events on that site, but I will keep looking. Lookingheart is focalizing a drum circle this month (says 'bring what you can' is that what you mean?) One paragraph of the rant was particularly absurd, "A brother from the Ozark region familiar with both the Rainbow Family and Peace Conspiracy recently wrote, "Funny thing about all of this actually is that Lookingheart hasn't ever made it to the Annual Gathering in July and for someone who hasn't ever been to the Annual to be master and commander of family communications is...wrong and the Family SHOULD BE aware if nothing else comes from this. The fact that he doesn't come to any Rainbow Gatherings other than the Ozark regional should really disqualify him (if that's possible in the Rainbow Way) from having so many keys if you know what I mean." So what if he's never been to Nationals. The arguement here as I understand it is he isnt qualified to be master and commander of family communications, but we dont want him to be master and commander, so it odesn't matter, right. He's not qualified to be what we dont want him to be. Fine. The thing that irks me here is that the message I get from this paragraph is that going to Nationals makes someone more Rainbow than someone else. Whatever. I've been to Nationals, it's no big deal. I'm not defending them, but I'm not being convinced yet either. I would like to see better 'evidence' first.

I would not post a link to a site like the one above if I had never met the people in question or if none of what is said rang true. The big thing for me has been talking to newbies who would tell me about some rainbow gathering they were going to after the Ozarks regional -- then proceed to describe a Peace Conspiracy event. I got no qualms with the whole idea behind PC, mostly because I have avoided getting to know the major players well enuf to know much of their business, but when their events are being misrepresented (either intentionally or thru unclear phrasing) as rainbow, that is a problem. While I would not complain too much about some accidental confusion, this has been an issue since these folks first popped up on the scene in the Ozarks region. After the flame war on alt.gathering.rainbow way back when, you would think that, if they had pure intentions, they would have been more explicit about PC events not being rainbow gatherings from then on. Edit: The big problems with misrepresentation are 1. if someone who has issues with being around alcohol shows up, expecting alcohol to be kept out at Acamp, not inside the event, but it is allowed inside (even if people don't get as beligerent as Acampers, those with issues will be uncomfortable & would not intentionally put themselves in such a situation), then they will likely be disappointed. A newbie may think that that's how a real rainbow gathering is & not ever go to another. Maybe they have changed their attitude to alcohol, but problems arose due to this a few years ago. 2. if any form of commerce goes on at an event that many newbies refer to as a rainbow gathering, that adds a whole new problem into the permit issue -- since one of the arguments that rainbows have brought up in refusing to sign is that a rainbow gathering is a non-commercial event.
And I would hope that anyone reading such a site would be skeptical. I would not suggest taking anything like this as truth just because it is being said. I posted the site because people should be aware that some folks have a problem with the Peace Conspiracy folks. So don't take everything they say unskeptically either. Keep both sides in mind when you meet & interact with these folks, then make up your own mind. And, yes, some of the things posted on that website seem over the top, like the bit about him never having been to a national. Yet, I do have to question someone who talks like an elder when he has only done a few regionals. Of course, I tend to question anyone who talks like an elder, so...

see, now I just read the thread wanderingturnip mentioned. That accusation is false. i got directions to Nationals off welcomehere, and it was in Cali. yes, they advertised an alternate gathering, but never claimed it was THE gathering, just an alternate.

I cant say I have ever been to a Rainbow event and I live in the Ozarks close to the area one was held. That is what the locals here told me atleast it was near Birch Tree MO. Anyway instead of fighting about when and where, why not use this forum and your PC to find out for sure or perhaps start one up. It's easy to insult but hard to take charge.
