    And use bad engish hehe..

I've started working at a restaurant so I have to dress nice. Really nice. It's just like a colour dress code, I can only wear white and black, so I have say over what clothes I wear just not their colour. I feel so scummy, I hate buying expensive clothes and labels, which I think is my problem cause I feel like I'm a total scummy slob next to my coworkers. Like, I bought a black A-line skirt and I loved it to bits, cause I hardly ever have things like that which everyone else has that I actually like (I also make a point of never wearing things everyone else wears, mainly because I hate most of it, partly because of the sheep it makes me feel). Anyway, so I bought this A line skirt, and I bought this really nice black top, and some other bits and pieces, and I felt good.. I felt like, for once, I was dressed nice and smartly and I didn't have to stand out with my taste in clothes, I felt great, really.

But then I was standing next to one of my friends who works there and she was wearing the same skirt, but it was a nice silky material and looked really smart and, like, you know, really well dressed (like some people with lots of money are, even though she isn't). We were wearing practically the same thing but I just went back to feeling scummy and underdressed and, I guess just not the same as everyone else.

I don't know what the problem is, I don't know if I should buy more expensive clothes, or if I have a self esteem problem (I don't really, I love who I am, I just hate how I can't be conventional, I can be a really high achiever but still never recieve anything at prizegiving, I can be well dressed but still badly dressed), or what. I'm going crazy. I feel like no matter what I do, I can never just be that person who measures up and is great compared to everyone else, not alone but when compared. All my life I've been told it doesn't matter what I am in comparison, but what I am alone, and I've always believed that and felt great about being me, but I just feel so crap about being me when I'm with everyone else, like I don't even up to people.

Just a rant. I was gonna just ask for dressing tips but I went way too far :/

well first you have to feel good about yourself it sounds like what you're wearing is fine. hmm black and white I have a black and white dress code thing I'm going to tommorow but I wear a lot of black unless something calls for black or pink or white I usually have to go get something ):. hmmm maybe black knee length fitted skirts and you could get white button down shirts taken in at the waist or a black fitted dress and a white cardigan? also i don't know what part of the country your in and if you have the same stores as here but I got some really cute black maryjanes and the heel is only two inches. they're cute and got with everything.

second hand is the way to go. Or those really cheap stores where you can get pants for like, $10 (Canadian, which is almost no money at all). I don't think expensive brands are going to make you happy - just try to find something that fits you well and is flattering to your body. Easy enough to find in cheap and second hand stores if you give yourself some time to hunt

anyways, who the fuck cares about your outfit aside from you? I mean, so long as you fit into the dress code requirements, what's the big deal? I have to dress pretty formally at my job too (though we can wear whatever colours we want - I'm usually in black) and yeah, some of hte other gals dress better than I do. Whatever. My clothes are comfortable, I can work in them, and I look well-dressed enough.

The trick is to find something that not only looks good, but looks good on YOU. Your skirt sounded really sweet, and if you're happy with how it looks on you, then ignore everyone else. It's so easy to get caught up in the comparisons of other people. But someone is always going to have more money than you, or that "perfect" figure (?) and if you continuously compare yourself, you'll be miserable. I used to do the same thing all the time... until I decided that everytime I found myself doing that, I'd thinking of three things I liked about how I looked. Try it, it works like a charm. :)

and geez, you are a server or host, right?
who cares as long as it's clean?
If you really must up grade, save some tips a and hit the Goodwill, St Vincent DePaul, yard sales in the spring, second-hand consignment shops and make sure EVERYTHING is washable.
Then take immaculate care of it. You can probably get by with four outfits for six shifts.
    rayon can dry quickly.
find ONE pair of awesomely comfy shoes and maintain them, too.

I keep my work clothes in a special drawer and 5-tiered hanger with a cloth cover on them. I keep a sachet or chunk of srong-smelling soap (the men's soaps from Bath and Body works are great) in there so they always smell just-washed even if I'm needing to wear a day air a day.

maybe you should wear what you like without making a point of wearing something different from other people?

i've never seen how this was any different from making a point of wearing the same things as other people! :)

    and don't stress. i'm sure you're fine.
