Hi, Myself and my family had a heated debate about this tonight. We were talking about Geo Godley, a satirist artist who recently went on the X-Factor with a song called "I'm A Stud" and dropped his pants a couple of times halfway through the song, causing mass hysteria including Paula Abdul walking off in tears. I believe that this was largely staged, and my sister said that what he did was in bad taste and people should have the right not to be offended and there are times and places where people can display their 'private' parts and prime time TV is not the place to do it. I retaliated by saying that no part of the human body is meant to be 'offensive', and exhibitionism does not kill, maim or injure anybody, therefore it shouldn't be treated in such a negative manner. However, as I understand it, Godley was not interested in winning the contest neither did he do it for sexual gratification, but rather as a one-fingered salute against the whole establishment that created the reality music shows in the first place. I'll throw it over to the others to discuss.
the x factor focuses on controversy and dramatics to raise its ratings simon cowell is shameless like this - expect more of the same.
Thank you for telling. I did look the scene on youtube and through the hysterical reactions of the onlookers i learned a lot about US people and their mind. Many of them seemed to be really shocked. Now I can better understand about all the problems nudist people experience over there. For the TV broadcast they even censored the ‘corpus delicti’ with an X, kind of ridiculous. I guess the appearance was a provocative joke, but they handle it like severe crime. Sad. I’ve seen news contris where the witnesses of US death penalty executions gave their statements, and they seemed to be more relaxed than the people watching this little tame joke (hey, yesterday was world day against death penalty, you know).
Pathetic. This episode also received unwarranted air-time in Australia — just too much of it. Trouble is, the act would have been rehearsed in order to get up there and act up for the judges! Don't tell me Cowell and cohorts didn't see it coming. All staged, heavily staged.
