The US thought police have ratcheted up the Drug War. It might soon be a crime just to discuss going to Amsterdam to smoke cannabis...never mind if you actually do it or not.

I really doubt this can pass, as it infringes upon free speech. Not only that but it puts the US in the position of being the World Police.

Yes, let's make even MORE criminals out of ordinary citizens so we can keep the Prison Industry and Big Pharma happy. It's also important to look like you're fighting the Drug War just before election time!

There're not enough faces or palms in the world to express the true level of /facepalm that this needs.

    This doesn't surprise me.

We have a law-maker trying to "re-criminalize" marijuana since it was decriminalized with the election in 2008 here in MA.

    People are such idiots

Lamar Smith, a republican, also advocates space exploration...sounds like a great way to waste more money!

It's actually a fantastic use of money, including but not limited to the myriad of natural resources in space, and that its exploration greatly furthers technological advancement.

not only does it go counter to free speech, but it is also assuming guilt before any act has been committed. So people can be prosecuted for something they might do in the future? What a load of crap, whoever came up with this brain-fart of an idea really needs to sit back, take a few bong hits and read the Constitution. Fucking priceless!
Scary thing is I'm sure it will actually get serious consideration.

Skip have you seen any other sources for this tid-bit other than huffington?

The people allow these entities to control them. Its not the government you should be worried about.

Watch the Republicans go APE SHIT between now and the elections trying to get ANYONE to vote for them! This is just a taste of the crap to come.

And knowing Obama, he'll completely cave into whatever issue of the moment the Repubs bring up between now and the elections.

Ain't that what the US has been playing for the better part of 50 years now? And even more so since 9/11?

they have really gone insane is all i have to say. DEA is in an obvious state of panic.

i seriously doubt it'll pass though. it's unconstitutional being in direct violation with the 1st and 5th amendments. how the hell do they plan to pull this off without revising the US constitution?
