I've been paying closer attention the past year but what I'm certain on is this: Gas stations operated by Indian/Pakistani/Bangladesh/Sri Lanka almost always ( seriously it's close to 90% ) force you to pre-pay for gas. It's a small nuisance but one caucasian gas station operatives do not make. Convenience stores operated by the above mentioned East Indian are often the slowest in service and mess up cigarette orders around half the time ( I judge this base on myself, friends and people I see ahead of me in line ). Convenience stores operated by caucasians will almost always know how to print out betting lines for sports and get you the right cigarettes. Also much better with directions. As for orientals, usually out of China, Thailand, Korea or Cambodia, they are often the most quick service and also rarely make you pre-pay. It's just something that's bugged me for a while and I thought to take it to you guys. I know you may assume cities like Toronto are more prone to violence and theft and that is why Indian gas operators have pre-pay but I've gotten gas from numerous caucasian operated gas stations and they never make me pre-pay. I swear to you guys, if you came down to Toronto we could easily do a test. Go to 3 gas stations operated by East Indians and 3 gas stations operated by Caucasians. Watch your mind be blown. Also in Newmarket, which is at the end of the 404 highway, where there's almost NO major theft anywhere as I grew up there. There are 3 gas stations owned by East Indians and they all make you pre-pay, I've used each one at least three times the past year. It's freaking ridiculous, how can I not notice this? And you might think it's only late at night but you be wrong. 5p.m. you have to prepay. This is a nuisance because I'm not always sure of how much gas to get and I usually judge by the litres. Also when I have to pre-pay it means I have to stand in a line. Caucasian operated gas stations often let the guy who only bought gas to come up and just give the cash and not make him wait in line behind everyone else. This is the way the world should work. You get your gas first, then you go in and pay for it immediately ( unless there's someone else ahead of you paying for gas ". Not have to stand in line, decide beforehand how much gas you're going to get and then go out and get it. FURTHERMORE, I've gone inside to pre-pay and realize I don't have enough cash on me but don't want to stand in line again so I get less gas than what I could have gotten. SEE THE NUISANCE??
It's not a massive problem is it? If it is a massive problem just don't go to Indian gas stations, that wouldn't be racist it would just make you fussy imo, you aren't discriminating because of their race, just their business practices....
In America, almost every gas station makes you pre-pay. I wouldn't say you are racist...you are making an observation
Pay at the pump? Who the hell pays cash anymore!? Most places will make you pre-pay at night. But I've never come across one that was like that in the day. Of course, I usually get my gas outside of Toronto and pay at the pump. As for Newmarket - I've worked gas stations in small towns and big cities: Gas theft is everywhere and happens more often than you think. And that was back in the day when it was cheap! I can't imagine the stunts people pull now.
watch your mind be blown...you suck at life, and observation of life. do us all a favor, and off yourself.
Way to fail at being progressive. I explain my beef and you tell me to kill myself. Fantastic. I'm sorry, I know Canada is super awesome. But I didn't find that when I went to Buffalo or Albany, this was the last year. I take out a certain amount of money at the beginning of every week. This weird? I understand pre=pay at night but most places outside of Toronto don't do that until after midnight. I don't know what small towns you worked in but maybe it's the conservative belt that is less crime riddled. Honestly this whole pre-pay only comes up when I'm in Toronto and an East Indian is operating the station.
The whole race and racism thing confuses me. We've determined there's no such thing as biological race. Therefore the historical determinant of race based on appearance is altered to refer to a geographical group of people. These people have a culture, like all groups of people. If we criticize based on race, we are therefore criticizing the culture of a group of people. To me this is not a whole lot different than criticizing the way someone lives - "you're lazy; you eat too much; you're not very smart". Don't say one can be changed while the other can't - the way I live is my culture, and I can change it in a second. If a group of people we call Indians (who are grouped together by their geographical origins) follow a certain custom, such as requiring pre-payment, I don't see the problem with pointing that out.
i thought it was so weird on a trip through the states that i had to pre-pay before pumping (only happened in Eureka Illinois)... are you from missisauga lol..so many east indians around there last time i went there it felt like a different country
It's been so long since I've seen gas pumps that weren't pre-pay. Can't trust people around here, dishonest and shitty excuses for human beings.
Never Seen A Pre-Paid In My Life, In Horsetralia All Petrol Stations Have CCTV Cameras And If A Car Pulls In With Obscured Plates Or The Face Of The Customer Is Covered With A Hoodie All The Console Operator Has To Do Is Flick A Switch And That Pump Is Disabled... There Is One Station Operated By Indians In My Town And They Treat Me Fantastic, Even If There A People Ahead Of Me In Line, Whilst They Are Waiting For A Credit Card Transaction To Be Approved, They Will Have A Joke With Me.... But Then Again I Live In A Small Country Town Of Only 40.000 So Everybody Knows Everybody.... Cheers Glen.
^^ its like that here...cameras everywhere..and they will shut it down if they see you jam the trigger open...or if youre smoking (which i dont)...but i do jam the trigger...the damn pumps are so slow i hate holding them if you forget your wallet they used to just take info down and let you come back to pay...now they have a note on the counter that you have to leave the car too or else they call police
I actually live in St. Catharines, 10 minutes away from Niagara Falls. But my girlfriend lives in Oakville. Oakville is largely caucasian from what I notice. And yes too on the cameras, a gas station operative can usually shut down any pump, after all they can authorize a pre-pay for the pump right? I would think maybe it's because I'm young and therefore typecast as more likely to steal. I've gotten cab drivers ask me for money up front because of my age. Honestly in Canada I feel if you drive up and try to drive away without paying, your license plate will be on camera and all the gas station operative has to do is report that and give the cops the tape. Maybe it's because Indian operated gas stations are targeted more for theft by people who think immigrants are stupid? Maybe that's it.
I don't see anything racist about this. I'm not even sure why you think you're a racist. I guessing you think you're one because of the bullshit mentality a lot of people have today, that if you criticize someone different that you, you must be a racist. I have pointed out some of the same things you have and 9 times out of 10 someone starts whining and crying about race. I will then try to point out that it has nothing to do with race of the person, it has to do with them being a fucking moron.
ok first of all i just want to say like most people i hate and am against raceism of any kind, judging, hating or discriminating against somone just because of the colour of there skin or where came from is not only wrong but it is stupid, we are all the same it does not matter the colour of your skin, we all everyone of us have a culture it is not wrong. but i am not sure this guy is being racist he is just making an observation, people now seem to be so worried about seeming raceist but to be honest allot of it is not raceism if you say something bad about someone because of there skin colour that is raceism but if you make a comment about a person and they happen to be a different skin colour to yours that is no way raceist it is only raceist if you make a negative comment about someone sloely because of there race.
Here is why you are a racist. Remember, you are free to be a racist, it is not illegal in Canada or America so far as I know. You compared 3 gas stations owned by 3 Indians to the gas stations owned by whites and Asians in your area. And now you assume all Indian gas stations are the same and give the same poor service. So the next time you walk into a gas station, say in Brandon, Manitoba, and see someone you think is an Indian behind the register you are going to instantly assume you are getting poor service, and the judgment of the service you do get will be tainted by your discrimination. In America, since the economy went kaput about 2005 or so, there are no more gas stations that aren't prepay, uless maybe in very small towns out in the middle of nowhere. I get an allowance out of my check for gas and spending money so I always pay cash. I normally give them more money than it will take to fill my tank, then fill my tank, then go get my change. The whole transaction takes less than 10 minutes. If I wanted to save time I could get a credit card and pay with that, but I honestly hate those credit companies with a passion and they can just kiss my ass.
I'm with Glen...[hello poppet]...in that I've never seen a prepay petrol pump. We do have some where you pay by putting a debit/credit card directly into a slot on the pump, but even those are very few. It's just pull up,pump, pay. There ARE cctv cameras fairly often, but I've never even been asked to take my helmet off when I'm riding Kermit,[shuddup-Kermit's my Vmax]although several of my mates say they've been asked to remove theirs. I don't see how you CAN pre-pay? After all,you go in,give the bloke £20-then find it only takes £17.20. What do you do-queue up for a refund? Or do you spend most of your time with empty tanks just so you'll get a full £20 worth in when you pre-pay for petrol next? [serious question, btw]
My car holds about $34 worth of gas when I fill it, if the gas is $3.50 per gallon. I pull up to the pump, go into the station and give them $40 at the register, go out and fill my tank, then go back in and get my change. I could train a 2nd grader to do it. I've heard people say that's a waste of time, while they are sitting on the couch playing a video game.
