Ouch, nearly 25% of my gross totally gone. - Is it odd to be surprised by what seems to be dwindling take home or have I been away from America too long?
yeah, that sounds about right. i'm not sure there's such a thing as being out of the states too long.
i don't know my exact figures. i get direct deposit, and the idiot company i work for is still sending my pay stubs to a location i transferred away from back in may.
seems like i pay about 12.3% (i'm a grad student if that makes a difference) where are you guys getting your number? i took my biweekly pay X24, and divided by my supposed yearly salary plus i get a refund. are you factoring that in?
oh yeah, it does depend on how many exemptions you claim. your paycheck/pay stub should say what your gross pay is, how much goes to each kind of tax, and then what the net pay is. i claim no exemptions, so they take a ton out and then i get about 2-3 full paychecks refunded after tax day.
they only take it if you file them ...self employment has some good benefits sometimes...as long as you die before you get convicted
I have to pay into the compensation and unemployment system even though a self employed business owner can not collect from them also i do eventually file stuff im just a few years behind..filing as business is a real hassle for an ADD person who is too cheap to hire an accountant
Exactly. Scary thing is, that is with 2 exeptions which is supposed to lessen the amount taken out of your paycheck and people say often, with 2 exemptions, you end up owing the government money in April..ugh..
this is exactly why i claim 0. one year my employers secretly changed it to 3, and i didn't even notice the difference until april came and i owed over $1000 that i obviously didn't have. since i got it back to 0, i've gotten back at least $2000 every year.
Look,we have to make up all the money that GE,Exxon,et al ,don't pay. After all, those poor little companies need some help. So let's all pitch in joyfully and hope fewer regulations on BIG business come to fruition,so that they can continue to be the good and caring businesses they have proven to be. And quit bitching about the millionaires and billionaires not paying enough. Not fair to kick them when they're dow--I mean up. Move along, now.
