    so lately ive picked up a really annoying habit of just fiddling with my dreads, like just touching them and making them smoothe etc. its really pissing me off haha, and i dont know if its doing any good for my hair. will they not up slower if i keep touching them?

    I would say that you are probably doing them a favor :)
    I usually have a crochet-hook with me and I can sometimes get pretty obsessive about doing my dreads with em, so I know the feeling.

    I can get so tired of myself sometimes :)

    In the first year of my dreads the right side locked up quicker than the left side- because I played with the left side. Though it was only a couple of dreads that had an inch or so of non-dreaded hair. Nothing much to worry about. Now 3 years on you can't even notice. Doesn't really make a difference ^^

    Enjoy your dreads! Play with them, make them feel loved

    why are you trying to make them smooth?

    stop fucking with them. and drop the crochet hook, other poster above.

    let them be, stop obsessing.

    I play with my dreads but it's more a tactile ocd kinda thing.
    Like Linus and his blanket.

    It depends what you want. If you want more manipulated dreads then carry on messing with them. If you want more natural dreads then leave them alone to do what they want.
