I have gotten down to half of an 8mg strip per day. but when i have tried to stop completely was having a hard time. is it better to decrease amount per day or decrease the frequency, like a day between , then two days between doses etc. thanks

Yes. Going lower than (for me) 3mg has been very hard. However, I have gotten to 2mg. You just have to really want off of it. For me it is the money issue. And I am cheap and poor enough for that to motivate me to cease treatment!

Let me ask you, have you tried just going cold turkey and being sick for 3-5 days?

Exactly, i've always found that opiates are alot easier to get off of if you just man up and stop. Yeah it will suck for a few days, but it's much better than dragging out a painful process.

I agree with evilreign, man up. Unfortunately, I have done that many times, came off subutex last november. It is just something you have to get used to not having, and I can tell you after a year I still do dope when I can. Its a never ending cycle.

It is kind of impossible to just go off cold turkey when you hold major responsibilities in your job. Missing four days of work/ class right now would have me fail the Semester and get fired for doing a shitty job teaching.

i've been on 4-6 mgs suboxone for 2yrs after 11yrs of opiates for cp (auto accident, metal plates, many fx's etc). i had to go the suboxone route due to pc retiring and could fine NO AREA pc who would prescribe opiates...(this shit with a documented history of chronic pain, etc???) my opinions about opiates id that depending on what and how long a person has been consistantly taking, cold turkey is not a good option unless it is the ONLY option. i've tried to wean dosage, lengthen dose taking times and have also come up w/o for over 5 days and those 5 days NEVER got me feeling near to better...it is the nature of opiates to addict, if taken long enough. tolerance is un-escapable. kinda sucs but i like em.:juggle:

Subs can be tough to get off of. If you have to get off them defiantly get to 1mg or less and do it then. Jumping from 4 would be a bitch to do. I was always successful reducing my subs at the larger doses. It gets harder when you get to 4 or so. I'd just drop a half a mg at a time if 1 seems to hard. This is hard to do with the pills much easier with films. Good luck either way!

Yes. Going down from 8mg to 6mg was easy. I did it in one week. 6mg to 4mg took another week and was easy. 4mg to 3mg took three weeks and was hard. And like i said, I won't attempt to go lower until my work/grad-school duties are not pressing so that I don't screw up my career just to get off of it as fast as possible.

ET theirs nothing wrong with that at all. I say take them as long as it takes to get better. That's the great thing about them their not like dope where it makes people do more and more and other stupid things to get it. I also agree reducing the lower doses is alot harder to do. I did it in half mg's once I got below 4 and didn't have to bad a time but were all different. It's a bitch for some to do. Hey ET congratulations for being on subs they're a lifesaver and I owe alot to them.

I will agree they are a life saver. Does anyone have advise for getting doctor to switch me to subutex. For me its mainly a money issue, the subutex are a lot cheaper. And I get kidney stones , I am worried that if I ever do need Pain meds in an emergency they wont work because of the Suboxone. Thanks every one for the comments so far..

If you are in the ER for something truely painful, they have plenty to breakthrough the Subs, and you being on Subs isnt going to stop them from making you comfortable as long as there is a genuine need. Im currently on 2-3mgs a day and im too busy to worry about getting off. im about to start school, but just so others here have an update, my condition appears to be getting worse. My left arm is getting to the point of becoming useless. An MRI shows very dense arthritis and scar tissue from a rotator cuff tear years ago. Its traveled down my arm from my shoulder to my elbow in 6 months. its anazingly painful when moved the wrong way. The back is getting worse and i cant sit for long periods of time. This coming summer I intend to rid myself of Subs and have been down to less than a mg for a week so getting off will still be a pain but it shouldnt be impossible. Ive been on subs only for 4 months with no opies coming just because i dont want to use em anymore. I have more subs than i know what to do with (probably easy 2 years worth). later.........

i dont know much about suboxone but ive been told they dont work by some people and others have told me its a miracle drug.say if i wanted to start suboxone whats a realistic timeline for how long i would be on it to be done with opiates or does it vary from person to person.for example could i start at 8 n drop 2 mgs a day and be off it in 4-5 days or is that just not real talk
