Help with rye bag colonization!

Hello everyone. A little more than a month ago, I bought everything I needed for a bulk substrate grow. I have grown mushrooms before using the PF-Tek method and I wanted to try something a little harder. The substrate I used was was rye. I got these pre-sterilized bags off of the internet from a website called out-grow.com . I inoculated the bags and after about a week there was a lot of mycelium growth on the side of the bags. From my research, I learned that you're supposed to mix up the contents of the bag when it is 30-40% colonized so that it will distribute the mycelium evenly and increase colonization speed. However, I think I did it wrong somehow. Ever since I mixed it around, it seems like it stopped growing.

I have more money saved up now, and I'm going to buy more rye bags and a different spore syringe. This time I would like to be successful.

Should I not touch the bags at all? If I should break it up, how should I do it, and how much should I break it up?

break it up when it reaches 25% -50% and 75% .. keep in warm spot.

 

If the bag has a filter patch, which I'm sure it does.
I like to lay them flat out, filter up, after nocing the bag up with spores.
I also don't touch them until 50% colonized.

If you really want to be successful with what you already know. Then go PF tek, when your jars are colonized, use a sterile as possible cheese grater and grate them into your sub and mix.
Cakes make awesome spawn.

If your bag didnt recover after you shaked it you have some sort of bacterial contamination. I know out-grow very very well. Mike's products are very good. Im surprised you are having a contamination problem. It makes me think it might be your syringe

 

true,. Ive gotten some bags from a bad source before... Good colonization from the start. Then blackening and stalls.. Other vendor bags have always been superb..
