The myth you hear the media and school say over and over.

Here is a list of the most common myth that I will try to de-bunck .

    1.Smoking pot makes you stupid.

False only when you high will you laugh at every thing and be silly. When you not high your brain is back to like everyone else.

2.smoking pot leads to lung cancer .

In the past they thought smoking pot leads to lung cancer but new research is saying the opposite.

3.Smoking pot is bad for the liver.

False too much alcohol can be bad for the liver

    4.smoking pot kills brain cells.

False too much alcohol or tobacco can kill brain cells over time

    5. smooking pot is addicting.

false soft drugs like smoking pot,LSD or ecstasy is not physically addicting but can be mentally addicting .

Hard drugs like cocaine ,crack or heroin is and being when you stop using the drug you will go through bad withdrawal you feel sick.

Smoking tobacco is just as addicting as cocaine .And high risk people that touch alcohol is more addicting than cocaine .

Than why if tobacco or alcohol is legale why is smoking pot not .

6.smoking pot can make people want to fight or be aggressive.

False it is the opposite of alcohol . People that use alcohol has what is called ups and downs they could be on clound 9 a drunk ,sleepy state the next partying like a cheetah full of energy and the next wanting to start a fight.

Smoking pot does the opposite of alcohol .You will most likey lose a fight.

7.Smoking pot makes you lazy .

False the stereotypical potheads dreadlocks , dress like a street person and school drop out and smoking pot is more of a subculture group.

People that are hippies ,preppy ,yappies ,rich ,poor , lower middle class ,punks , hip hop so on all smoke pot.

8.smoking pot mess with your attention memory processing. Meaning you have to talk slow and have to repeat yourself over and over.

Only when high but alcohol does this too.

    9. smoking pot can lead to mental illness

In the past they thought it would lead to mental illness not any more.

Anyone else here have myth you hear over and over and the media bias:sunny:

    smoking pot can cause depression.

I've heard teachers say this in school. I'm not sure if this is true for anybody, but it's definitely not true for me. I am happy before during and after I smoke. when I'm stressed on or two hits is all I need to change my state of mind and calm down, rethink the situation. I never got depressed from weed like I did with some drugs.

All I know is from experience is that for me weed makes my depression and anxiety worse but that is only when I am having symptoms prior to smoking.

I suspect that in some people it might tend to worsen depression that is already present. It's not a one size fits all proposition- like most other things that affect us. If I'm going through a tough phase I'm well advised to lay off the weed until I get whatever it is resolved. I tend to get way too complacent if I smoke regularly. My use of it is mostly to help induce sleep. Currently I'm steering clear of it. Personal decision.

  7. smoking pot is bad for you.

    paxil is good for you.

drugs are only good when they are otc or prescribed for you.

weed can exacerbate /accelerate some mental illnesses when a person already has them.

weed can DEFINITELY give you memory/ concentration problems, complacency, apathy, paranoia.. and other problems...

    i love weed a lot,
but it does you no good to believe a thing is infallible just because you like it.

    Bingo...

Insisting that marijuana has no negatives as a basis for advocating its legalization will tend to make it self defeating in part by reinforcing the assumption that legalization advocates are not to be taken seriously.

Maybe this thread should be "The Myth you head the uneducated stoners and potheads say over and over"... The answer.. "Marijuana is completely harmless"

There are myths on both sides of the issue.

There is harm in nearly EVERYTHING we ingest. The question is degree. And compared to other medicines and recreational drugs, marijuana is the LEAST DANGEROUS.

And instead of dwelling on the NEGATIVE, as our gov't would have everyone of us do, let's dwell on the POSITIVE...

What makes you feel BETTER than POT? HUH? Come on, tell me what you can ingest that is less harmful or has NO HARM at all that makes you feel BETTER than pot.

If you can't answer this question, then the answer is CLEAR AS DAY. POT IS BETTER FOR YOU than any other recreational drug and most pharmaceutical drugs.

So don't give me shit about the MYTH of Harmlessness. Again NOTHING IS harmless. You can kill yourself drinking water!

its not a matter of dwelling on the negatives that the government points out.. its more a matter of excepting that there are negative effects

yeah, that's like with anything though. If you are not going into it with a positive mindset you're situation won't get better. and may very well get worse. I try not to use anything recreationally if my head is in a bad place.

    myth:
it leads you to do things you might not otherwise do. (this is one I heard in the detention center when I was a kid.)

(it might make you laugh at something you might not otherwise laugh at, but it's not gonna make you jump into bed with someone or anything like that)

I think it's possible that the more you use it, the more your body and brain adapts to the chemicals in a way that eliminates some side effects. For some people I think it's a healthy supplement, for others not so much. Personally I like to get high as much as possible...

It does make you a bit lazy sometimes. I think the reason it makes you seem lazy is just that you get easily contented doing what ever you're doing, even if it's just sitting on your ass. Likewise if you're engaged in something already and not just sitting around, being high can make the work more enjoyable.

I don't know about tobacco, but it's apparently not true that alcohol kills brain cells. In the past it was thought to be so, but it's since been proven a myth.

Perhaps you're correct but my experience suggests that the affected cells are probably better off dead.

I agree with you, but dude there's no denying that smoking pot is addicting... Like you won't go through withdrawal when you stop after doing it a lot like with caffeine, alcohol etc. But I no kids who can't stop for the life of them....
