"latin term for the love of humanity"

I just found out what philanthropy means in etymological terms... Blew my mind. Makes the world... a much nicer place to think that one could love all of humanity. Don't you think?

As opposed to "misanthrope" which is the distaste for all of humanity.. much colder reality arises from it.

A bit idealistic, but if we can even achieve half of our ideals, the world would be a nicer place.

I think reality probably falls between those extremes.
