I've been trying to quit smoking for well over a year. I don't want to use any Big Pharma, change my brain chemistry, pill. Tried the patch - didn't work. Still trying nicotine mints, a little success, but realized I was just becoming addicted to those. I want to get the fuck away from nicotine entirely. So several people have suggested I try hypnosis. One problem, I don't believe in it - in fact I think it's utter bullshit - at least to regard to magically eliminating a physical and mental addiction. However, I still wonder about it. So, my question is (finally) has anyone in these forums truly overcome nicotine addiction via hypnosis?

You can hypnotize yourself at least that’s what I think this is I myself did quit several times with this the relapse after few months or weeks always gets me though. What u need is leverage for ur will.
Ok so I do this before sleep in bed or whatever just makes it easier to quit in the morning u know. I promise myself nei make a bet with myself and the universe that I will lose whatever is precious if do smoke one up within agreed time best to pick one week so u do not lose hope in ever finishing the promise make it a reachable goal.
So here it is sounds simple but it works a treat just make sure to pick something near and dear to ur heart as the betting chip hell if u have a daughter that would be perfect there is no chance u smoke one up if thats at stake I don’t know why it works perhaps because at some level I actually believe something may happen or the simple fact that every time u do want to spark one up this promise pops up as an actual manifestation of ur will to quit smoking in the moment of weakness.

My uncle was hypnotized years ago to quit smoking and he did quit for 2 yrs, but picked it back up. His daughter (my cousin) wound up becoming a licensed hypnotist, altho' she doesn't do that for her primary "living" now. If you are able to be hypnotized and you really do want to quit smoking, I sincerely believe it will help a great deal. (just my .02 cents)

My sister tried it, she cut down from roughly a 20pack a day to a 10pack a week, didn't stop entirely then but she's pushed the last little bit herself. It definitely works, give it a go

You can't mean 20 packs a day - you mean twenty cigarettes per day right? I think 20 packs in a single day would likely kill an elephant.

jam, like you, apparently, i have tried everything but a hot poker in the eye to quit smoking. i tried hypnosis, and i quit for 3 days. i have tried it for other things, and am using a mp3 download now for pain amelioration.

there IS something that goes on with this mp3. it relaxes me, and i don't notice my pain as much. it aint perfect. none of the hypnosis (except for a regression session i tried some years ago) has been 'impressive to the maximum'. if you don't believe in it at all, as you say, i think you might be wasting your time.

i think the same 'moderate results' happened with the smoking cessation. i would have wanted to quit way more than i did (or maybe do, now) in order for it to work. the real key is, i think, convincing yourself (not someone else nagging you) that YOU want to QUIT. i don't. i enjoy about 3 or 4 cigs a day....the others are 'uppers' when i'm tired.

i have cut down to something like 6 or so a day. i roll my own out of commercial bag tobacco, so i have to go through 'a process' to have a cigarette. if i have pack cigs, i'm back up to a pack a day....it's too easy to pull a commercial cig out for me, and have it lit without thinking.

    hope that's some help.

good luck quitting smoking. Its hard as hell but it can be done.

you will always crave a cig in an hour, whether you smoke one now or not...
