I used to have dreads for about 8 months a couple years ago. I loved them but didn't know much about taking care of them. I had terrible dandruff and itchiness.
But since then I've been introduced to my current religion and I attend Inipi ceremonies regularly. These ceremonies consist of purification through intense sweating. So would this cause my dreads to become really stinky? My old set was stinky and I didn't even exercise much then! I also run more often and play tennis. How can I keep the stink away??

Soap and water usually do the trick.

Well I tried dr. bronners peppermint soap back then, I think that's what caused it to itch. :p What soaps do you recommend? I hear a lot of different things.

If you're gonna use Bronners, dilute it 12:1 or more if needed, and rinse properly, the cause of build up is not rinsing properly or not diluting it

2 parts urine (human female works best for me, but you can try various sexes and species, find your own) to 1 part vinegar and 4 parts cranberry juice.

Let it dry in for under a week, then rinse. Your scalp will have no more itching or sweating problems, as long as you repeat it at least monthly.

I read that you should only use T-gel on mature dreads
and in moderation due to its conditioning effects
    is this information true?

I don't think it has any conditioning effects, i'm at about 11 months and my dreads look good, new baby ones forming all the time. I wash my hair with tgel like twice a week :D

There is no conditioning effect with T-gel.
A few people who've tried it for the first time were pretty impressed by the amount of ripping they had to do after the washing.

I'm curious about where you read such a thing about it being a conditioner.
Some sites are so bias about the 'naturalness' we all must adhere to with dreads that they spread as much dis-info as the waxy sites.

T-gel sells conditioner separate. i just looked up the product and it seems pretty legit. if only they knew us dreadsters were a big market for it, id like to see which product they'd recommend to on their little hair type chart.

SUPRISE this thread is now about T-gel

Glad I asked, this forum has legit info. There is a ton of B.S. about dreads out there.

Ive had my dreads for a year and they've never smelled. I wash with baking soda for the most part and only wash once every week/week and half. I do however deal with dandruff, so I shall try this T-gel.
