ummmm. you could put like 30 small number on a ball and roll it and whatever number is exactly at the very top is the number that counts. so it could be as many numbers as you can fit on it. but it can't be infinite cus there is only so much surface space

I guess a ball could be dice or(die)but I'm not sure about an infinite sided one, unless it was a ball of infinite size. A ball of infinite size could only be made by God, ..so I guess the question is..could God make a ball so big that even he couldn't make it into an infinite sided die? I would think the answer is yes he could, but one that big would have to be in it's own dimension and I guess it would be a very strange place where everything is topsy turvy and nothing is quite what it seems.

  4. No, because a ball is round and therefore has no corners. Dice have corners silly! ;)

Im not sure if the surface of a sphere counts as a side. Maybe its a 0 sided dice

but surely the problem with a perfect ball would be the size of the numbers not the amount of sides?

    Why does number size count?

Yeah. Having seen a 100d, I'd have to go with infinite sides.

Geometrically, a sphere has only one surface that is continuous. In the physical world a ball has a very high but not infinite number of surfaces, and the number of faces depend on how large and flat you need a surface to be to count as a face. Since dice work by geometric assumption that they represent a cube, I would say a ball has 1 face.

It's an interesting question though, because in math there are many times when the only solutions are infinity, 1 and 0, and I find that applies to the real world as well. For example how many sex partners are ok? Some people think one (no sex till marriage or true love) some think infinity (as many as you want) some think none (celibates). Philosophically, how many things are important? 0 (nihilists), 1 (deists think it's god, some think it's the self, others belive it's their one true love, their art, ect), infinity (existentialists, relativists, universalists, ect)

With this assumption, I'm going to assume you're not a gamer. :p

Well, what I meant is that the physical object of a 6 sides die is not a true cube due to being made of real matter, but is treated as one. Likewise a 20 sided die is not a true Icosahedron, but is treated as the pure geometric version of what it represents for game purposes. So if a ball were a dice, by the same pattern it would be treated as a true sphere, which has one face.

Reverse it. Is a 6 sided die a ball? Don't think so. How many sides does your head have? Front,2 sides, top and rear. Is your head a 5 sided ball?
