Watching the schmaltz over the last couple days about the anniversary in comparison to all the other disasters over the last decade, seems over done What happened in Japan and Libya this year, all the earthquakes and Tsunamis over the last decade. The boxing day tsunami was by far the worst disaster of the last decade. Something like 30,000 kids dead in Somalis latest famine, and that barely gets a mention, not that thats really surprising we are all desensitised about that stuff, but still, in comparison Yeah sure, all the vision a lot more in your face, and if I'd been there or lost family it would hit me harder. But in comparison to everything else, even the wars it sparked - how many iraqi and afghani civilians died....in comparison too much schmaltz ends up making it look like - yeah but in this a whole lot of rich white people died so its suppose to be worse
NY city fireman not really rich.. but they had the tendency to exploit this fire dept while other across the county cant afford newer trucks..
It is overdone. I think its psycologicly bad for us to keep bringing it up every year. It keeps the anger fear and hatred alive. We have allowed the governement to take more control over us because of 9/11 and we have stood by and even supported a war that has financially destroyed us. And that has no end in sight. Even if I would have had family lost that day I would want to put this behind. You cant just sit there and let tragic events eat and eat and eat away at you or it will destroy you.
can i just remind people at least that there is a distinction between both human and natural disaster though both incidents are horrific should we really be disregarding one thing for another because it is hypocritical and equally as desensitized but furthermore because we had our own free will to cause such destruction???
It is the media spectacle that is being discussed, I think. I just saw a little TV piece on a ceremony in Japan for the 6-month anniversary of the earthquake. It lasted about 2 min.
I still remember W. sitting there, reading a children's book, after being told what had just happened, he had a thoughtful moment and continued to read. Wouldnt the president get up and run off during a "surprise attack" of this magnitude? 911 probably the best false flag attack of all time.
How else will the willingness for continued erosion of freedoms take place if we aren't regularly reminded of how unsafe we are? It's very useful to see a crisis as the government does... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VjMTNPXYu-Y"]Crises are opportunities Getting ones head around this way of thinking makes it very easy to see why those in charge are slow to address all manner of issues but engage in rhetorical pageantry to cultivate antipathy against entities (corporate, political, or otherwise) in order to perpetuate support for legislation that was likely written before whatever issue du jour arose. 9/11 was a golden crisis for the government as among other things it furnished an iron clad excuse to begin restricting the people and put in place the makings of the eventual police state that seems to be the ultimate goal and the general population, who has been conditioned to feel entitled to a sense of security furnished by someone else, refuses (or fails) to see what seems to be the trend being set by policies enabled by crises. As long as the government insists on progressively confiscating liberty none of us will ever quite be over 9/11.
I feel the event was a smack in the head to a lot of people, whether they knew someone involved or not. People who thought these disasters were far away from home, allowing us to BE desensitized to it. This happening brought it closer, right on our doorstep, and gave a lot of people an extra push to want to KNOW what's happening in this world, instead of stumbling through blind, ignoring all the disasters sparking around us.
I'm sorry VG, but I do not agree with you. Although natural disasters and everything tragic happening lately is absolutely devastating, there is a reason 9/11 is still such a big deal in America: We are still at war for it. it was a brutal thing for this country to go through - probably the worst thing ever in America. And its only been 10 years. All of the generation of that time is still alive. Wait a few generations and the hype will finally die down. In the meantime, I feel awful for those who suffered and those who are still feeling the effects of it...my husband included - who is currently preparing for a mission in Afghanistan - all because of 9/11
it is overdone. I wish people would just forget about it. We have a lot more devastating shit going on RIGHT NOW that we should take notice to. watching the football games yesterday, having a good time and drinking beers....then a depressing 9/11 commercial comes on about people falling etc.. I was so done with it and changed it I went to two bars yesterday and no one took mention or nothing was up. I felt in my glory that it wasnt everywhere you went just bury it now
there are people dead who cannot do that. to be honest i am pretty disgusted by some of the comments here you're life hasn't been ruined by it perhaps - but many people's have plus there are people, young people, dying for your sorry asses as we speak and what do you have to say "who gives a fuck anyways???" oh well... how controversial and cool of you. forget why, what, where, how - think of those like yourself who were innocent just like those who die of famine, natural disasters and likewise in other places of the world. fuck you very much.
The aftermath of 9/11, and what our brave men and women of the Military have done by putting their lives on the line and leaving their families behind to make sure we are safe is one of the reasons that you could go and drink in the bar, watch football without having to worry to much about someone blowing it up with you in it. I have to agree with TIB there seem to be a lot of ungrateful people here that don't realize just what good has come out of this tragedy. I know that not everything is good, and I will be the first to tell you that I don't agree with everything that we do as a nation, but had we not got off our asses and done something we would be somebodies bitch today and you may not have even a remote chance to drink a beer or watch a football game. Is it over comercialized? Yes. Can we just forget about it? NO! We must learn from it and hope we do get caught sleeping again. Thanks to all those who have served this great nation in the military.
I hope that nobody just forgets about it. That is like telling everyone who lost a loved one either from 9/11 or fighting for this country to get over it and forget about it. I won't forget about it nor will I forget about all of those who jumped from the towers just to get out of the fire.
I was thinking the same thing, but this is our country :America, and this tragedy happen here, so of course they are going to pay attention to it more than any thing thats happening in a different country. Especially when american police officers/fire fighters died.
