I do. It depends on the context; but I feel it is offensive considering the context described in the question. About the only time I would consider it not offensive would be if it is being used as an accurate adjective. Like, the things being described really is something 'homosexual.' "That outfit it so gay," when that outfit really is something that, stereotypically at least, is of the homosexual taste. At that point, it still depends on intent to me. If it's done jokingly in a positive way, or as a matter of fact way, then I am not offended. If it's done in a negative and hurtful way I am offended.
Wouldn't insinuating that being short or small is less masculine be equal to someone degrading homosexuals by calling something "gay" in a negative context?
of bloody fu*king course it offencive, how anybody doesn't find it so it beyond me. Its associating being gay with being lesser, being stupid, being inadequate. How can all of you say that "Oh well I don't MEAN it as a slight against gays!" shut it, its hurtful, hearing it once, most people can deal, hearing it 1000 times everyday as a synonim for idiocy or inadiquacy is wrong.
Yes this bothers me. It says gay = bad. I hear this quite a lot and it disappoints me when my friends use it.
Once upon a time gay sent happy then it sent homosexual, people shouldn't get mad if people now use it to mean something is lame the crippled never made such a fuss about lame the weak never did the stupid aren't in an upraw. I refuse to be so pc about words like gay the f word is different and I don't mean fuck I don't like those kinds of words but gay isn't the same thing. Its just so gay to get upset of saying that's gay.
Er yes they did. Handicapped=hand in cap, from when people with disabilities were seen as less than equal and had to beg for a living. Invalid=invalid which literally means worthless. Lame=weak, inadequate. Using these words is unacceptable Handicapped, Invalid, Lame and Gay. Why not just use the proper English and use Disabled or Wrong. It's all about respect and understanding for people around you.
Such was a key word in that sentence u saw fit to quote clearly the fuss wasn't as extreme cause I didn't hear about it this gay thing is like in my face and I don't like being told what to do people should grow thicker skins. If saying that's gay is such a problem for people they are far to sensitive for modern society.
i think dark sugar said what i wanted to say words evolve over time We can use the word gross but people instead can use the word 'skeeved' Whenever I hear the Flintstones theme song, I hear 'Gay ole' time' and think how did this eventually end up meaning homosexual? If anything, calling homosexual people as gay seems derogatory because it seems to be a misunderstanding of what homosexuality is. I don't understand how this actually came about but I'm thinking it had something to do with people's misunderstandings. It makes it seem like there is no emotional depth to a homosexual person that all they ever are is happy and can never be pensive, thoughtful, suave or anything else.
