i am getting a 6 string accustic guitar from my brother and i was wondering what songs would be easy and fast to learn. i was thinking bad fish by sublime or loser by beck but i'm not sure if those are begginer. any suggestions ?
Badfish would probably be easy What I got-Sublime Hurt- Johnny Cash Knocking on Heaven's Door- Bob Dylan About a Girl-Nirvana Wish you were here-Pink Floyd Sweet Jane-Velvet Underground Last Dance with Mary Jane- Tom Petty Flake-Jack Johnson
Loser is a great song, but he uses a slide to play the opening riff. If you're getting into slide guitar that's a good idea though. And slide guitar is fun.
I am in the same boat. Those are good suggestions above. I am still looking for songs which have alot of rhythm and chords and less tabbing leads. A really good site is www.e-chords.com What's best about that site is that it has chord reference charts which can be overlayed each tune. WEhile some other sites have that, this site is much clearer, so it's really easy to learn melodies without needing the tabs by just reading the chorditure overlayed on the lyrics. Some of the most acoustic songwriters like James Taylor and Cat Stevens are good choices, but would you believe that they are really pretty difficult. Sheryl Crow, The Who, all have memorable licks. Don't forget Beatles.
Let me add that early Bowie like songs from Changes and Hunky Dory (such as Starman, Five Years, Life on Mars, Changes), and songs by Heart like If you love me like music are fun.
The first songs I learned where Knocking on heavens door by Bob Dylan Hurt by Johnny Cash House Of the Rising sun by The Animals I won't back down Johnny cash.
Wish you were here by Pink Floyd like guerilla said before, is definitely a must learn for beginners its freakin easy, fun to play and can be learned within minutes another i learned very early on was led zeppelin's stairway to heaven, definitely fun to play
Mr. Tambourine Man by Bob Dylan. I just learned it and it's really easy! https://www.youtube.com/user/martyzsongs#p/search/34/j3mRm9xdn4w Watch that video
I would still consider myself a somewhat beginner, but I've learned: About a Girl - Nirvana Blackbird - the Beatles Bad Moon Rising - Creedance Clearwater Revival (3 chord song) Wish You Were Here - Pink Floyd Heart of Gold - Neil Young If you are looking for an easy Cat Stevens song try 'Father and Son', just need a capo.
Good songs for beginners are ones with G, C & D, and E, D, & A. The old song GLORIA for instance is E, D & A. Always teach a student to play the E chord with the bird finger, ring finger and pinky. Then they can learn to play bar chords. All chords are available with bar chords. The F chord is just like the C chord, only one string down with the bird and ring fingers. The F chord two frets up is G, four frets up is A, six frets up is B, seven frets up is C. Between E & A is only a half step. Same with B & C. When playing bar chords, lifting up the bird finger makes all the minor chords, lifting the pinky makes 7th chords.
I remember when my son was learning to play the bass guitar...all I heard for a while were the chords to Iron Man (Ozzie Osbourne/Black Sabbath) and Smells Like Teen Spirit (Nirvana). Now, every time I hear those songs, I think of him :guitarist:
I learned to play songs by Dylan, Neil Young, CSN, the Grateful Dead, etc. They have easy chords and more advanced ones. Neil Young is by far my fav to jam with. His slow bluesy songs are great to learn lead with. If you're into punk, I think they have two chords you need to learn... Oh and you can cheat by learning alternate tunings so you can just slide the same chord up and down the neck... Unfortunately I never practiced enough to get good at it... My fingers would stop obeying my commands by the third song cause they would wear out. If you really want to get good at it, take your guitar wherever you go and never stop practicing.
When you start to play guitar it's highly likely that you have some cheap piece of crap to begin with to play on.This won't help you because it will be hard to make chords, your hands will ache and you will be put off. It's well worth saving up and get the best guitar you can afford.Take a more experienced player to the store with you and always run your eyes down the fretboard in front of you to check the frets are in line.
Once you've mastered strumming a few simple chords, you can play along to literally thousands of songs. Most folk, country and blues songs only use three or four simple chords. Most of Dylan's stuff is very easy too.
Jambalaya-Hank Williams has two cords E & A Angel from Montgomery G C & D The weight-The band G Bm C then G C G C then G walks down to Em F twice Girl from the north country- B Dylan just G Bm C Down in the easy chair-B Dylan G Am C I'm so lonesome I could cry-H. Williams G C D You wreck me-Tom Petty Capo 1st fret D A E D A E then C G A C G A Kryptonite-3 doors down Bm G A
And that my friends is how to play the guitar! Now form a band...Spend six months jamming in your basement or garage and hit the road!
in case you haven't heard it yet....yeah I'm shameless.... http://www.ourstage.com/profile/rjhangover/songs
