Well i'm tempted they seem to be coming down in price, seen 45 watts units for £55-70 uk now 3 or 4 of them would only take one harvest to pay back if 45 watts led is really the same as a 200 hps light which in cost for light terms would make them the same as a quality hid lights. I like the idea of multi 45 watts units cos you can get good coverage without having to hang them high. Still not sure on what I should be looking for in terms of spec so any input would be great.
I bought 2 90w UFO's and was impressed with them during veg season, didn't get to try them for flowering yet!>)
god dam thats good enough for me lol. The ufo's are slightly more costly but guess ya pay for what you get. Did you notice any good and bad points between them and hid's? Not impossible to build one but would give me sleepless nights till I work out the perfect mix of red and blue led's.
The thing about them was I got them from 2 different sllers on eBay, they both had the same ratio of red to blue (80-10), but one gave off a purple light spectrum as seen in ads the other was more redish and didn't seem to nurish the babies as well. Maybe I just didn't give it a good enough test. Each 90w UFo covers 3-4 square feet comfortably. I got this one 3years ago from calnursery.com, but their new generation adds orange LEDs I haven't had a chance to test those.
For the ufo sure I've been reading .3-.6 meters away will cover 1 square meter. Its a mine field colour if you read the nm ratings. Seen huge price ranges for a 90 watt ufo £100-189 uk all marked as triband but after what you just said makes me wonder why. Also I dont get how the 90 watt ufo is mark up as being 82 watts power consumption? Especially when the write up says it has 3 pc fans to keep it cool. Was warming to em till I say that.
There's a step-down transformer inside that may cause the heat? Also the fans are exhausted on the sides and vented down so I didn't have to have as big a big fan to generate a breeze in the room:>)
Thats a little perk with the fans and yep would reckon cos there quite small and being transformed fans are needed. One last thing what did you reckon to penetration and build quality? Lol. After the 40 questions grilling you really deserve commission will order this week or next so fingers and toes crossed on that. Thanks again cleared a few things up for me.
How do I go about collectin' on this here commision!>D Quality seems good to me, seems also to penetrate at least 3', but as I said I didn't get to test it in the flower room as much as I'd like. The light works great in the veg room though, and for the price one can get several for the price of a 1kw HPS, but try one then if it works in yer application ya can always get more, remember ya can run at least 10- 90w UFO's for the price of one 1000w hps , but ya only need 4-6 to do the same job. The new tri-band LED's are supposed to broaden the band width closer to HPS, so if ya get one, start a journal for it, I'll be watching!>)
Aww the commission i'l start selling led lights and fake a journal and slip you a few green backs everytime somebody mentions hip forums when buying. Gotta be careful with tri band and quad i'd say, some are 610 orange which is the start of the useful light band and some are full spectrum 2600-6000k+ just seems like ya wasting energy on parts of the k band that dont do much for plant growth imo. Loads of mixed reports on line about how there not that good at blooming with some even reporting a no show, i'm just wondering how much is down to cheap made in china leds growing style or ppl not compareing watt for watt with hids. It seems clear ya not gonna grow monster sticks of bud with just one light over the top like hid's but in a stealth grow or cabs your not aiming for that but what you are aiming for is compact plants. I think where led's do shine is for the micro grower who just wants a smoke yet see the cost of electric and herb rise year on year.
Thanx for the commission!>D I've often wondered why add the orange led's when there's red already in the spectrum, why not yellow?>)
phphttp://ledgrowlights.info/LED-light-wavelengths.php Always thought yellow and green are not used by plants. And to confuse the matter even more 5 bands lights have 2 peaks in both the red and blue spectrum with an added orange to make up the five band. In general as growers we targe only the blue and red spectrums.
Found this quite interesting write up on light and what to look for in led. kulekat.com/led-home-lighting/do-led-grow-lights-work.html
First off great read^^ After reading that I am seriously thinking of trying an 180wat Prosource led side by side with a 600wat hps.http://www.prosourceworldwide.com/I...-Grow-Lights-p/illuminator jumbo ufo 180w.htm which they say it is compairable as soon as my current grow finishis (60-75)days remaining so eventuly I'l hopefuly have you guys a good reveiw on the product or possibly its predisessor with how far led tech seems to have come. I will likely have each light cover a square metter with same strain/nutes and see if it really is compairable. I'm hoping it is while 599dollar is two 600 eltric balast w/ reflectors only 180 wats vs 600 is pretty atractive.
Dont listen to the hype and do not part with your money some plants do love em lettuce peppers but for anything other then starting seeds and cutting there not suitable for cannabis as they lack intensity and have a shorter effective light range then even cfl's and all your gonna grow cannabis wise with them will be short plants with whispy lack luster buds.
You have heard this reported about this companys' 180wat covering a 10 sqft space at proper distance? And allso an 90 day trail period is enough to test plants in flower vs hps......
like said it all depends what your growing. they also quote hid bulbs are only good for 2 cycles before you see loss in yield. i.m not being a damp sponge one they seem expensive for what they are and two what do you say after your 90 days? sorry but my cannabis turned out shite i want my money back? i do think one day something will replace hids with the ever increasing cost of electric but at moment for cannabis led only good for starting up and then the savings in electric are only less then half the quoted figures.
But their commerical I have did seem some wispy buds but majority looked ok; I guess i am guible in beliving it is possible to grow great plants with such small engery output at this point in time.
plasma seems like its the next new lighting for the geek but you need some serious folding 1000's if you wanna go play. theory wise targeted light seems sound but as a delivery method led aint ideal and dont think we truely understand what all the wave length do yet.
