The private sector is going to win out over any nation.

Seriously what I was thinking ha. Sure private company, but who would a top company choose to satisfy efficiency requirements? A Japanese dude most likely; some benefits: low calorie consumption, smaller than average, generally good with numbers and gadgets, rape fetish

I'm going to go with Polynesian Islanders. They have excess fat and slow metabolism enough to get through hybernation. As well as people from the South.

I don't knoooooooow excess fat good or bad? You gotta be light as possible to reserve fuel. Might be easier to pack calories that are lighter than fat.

Well your whole point is smallness, but if that were true, than midgets would be the future! I think you've got another agenda here.

How much are they paying you?

Genetically engineered humans who are resistant to cosmic radiation, as well as the long-term effects of micro-gravity.

    Hello,

cockroaches seem to be best. I've heard they are rad hard. That's key to survive in outer space. And you can build the space craft lighter. No shielding and stuff is needed.

    Regards

I think waterbears would be a better animal choice.

    - They can survive the vacuum of space
    - They can survive thousands of more times radiation than humans
    - They can survive for prolonged periods without water
    - They can be frozen solid for weeks
    - They look like tiny gummy bears

    Hi,

    ;)

Hm, what do you expect do aliens look like? Are they based on carbon? Not that they think we are sending them food rations. *nomnomnom* and there they go, our mini astronauts ;).

    Regards
    Gyro

Cockroaches would be good. I think end game, it'll be artificial intelligence anyway. When you hear the question posed ... "what's the meaning of life" you can come up with several answers based on the time scale you're looking at. A big part of me thinks the point is for life to originate on a planet with plenty of water and an ideal temperature range, and advance far enough without destroying each other to create AI which will carry on the process of the universe understanding itself.

What do you guys think about artificial intelligence vs. genetic engineering? Which one will help us colonize other planets faster. Which one has more potential in regards to a long, long term future? Will it be a mix, i.e. super people with nano robots in our bodies?

Ooh just looked up pygmies. Kinda scary. Would be a good candidate if they're tech savvy. They look tech savvy.

    Hello,

well, which other planets? I don't think we would colonise other planets, neither the planets in out solar system nor any other planets.

We have to colonize other areas of the universe! I'm not at all content with intelligent life's length of existence being limited by the endurance of our nearest star. When it burns out we're done? No thank you, let's keep the ball rolling.

So obviously I was thinking outside our solar system. If the speed of light holds as the cosmic speed limit it will likely mean we'll need spacecrafts capable of transporting several generations to distant energy sources. It might not even have to be other planets. They might be the least useful locations for us to pursue. I've seen examples of black holes as potentially nearly limitless sources of energy. Basically launching projectiles into the orbit of the BH and then using rockets to launch the projectile out of orbit, back to us, with much more velocity, which we could recapture and turn into electricity.
