Has anyone pulled their own molar? And if so, how did you go about doing it? (and please don't tell me "just to go to the dentist")
It is possible.. My mother and some of my relatives have done this by their own. But I would STRONGLY recommend that you to do not do this your own. By doing it by yourself you may get an open wound that probably can result to infection.
jamgrassphan - I am in agreement with andy123 when he suggests that you not attempt this extraction yourself. A good friend of mine had (past tense) a nephew who pulled his own molar, and he ultimately died shortly thereafter. I do a lot of my own health stuff, but pulling teeth would never be something I would attempt. If you have an infection going on up in there, it is critical that you take antibiotics to rid yourself of the infection prior to any extractions, because something weird happens if you don't do things in the right progression, or something like that. Your teeth are in close proximity to the brain, and I believe that's relevant. Not to mention the extraordinary trauma you would put yourself through in attempting to do this yourself. Of paramount importance here, is that you are asking for input because you're not sure of: not only how to do it; but if you should do it. Attempting to perform a tooth extraction on yourself without knowing much about the subject, is without a doubt; not a good idea. Infections that occur under and around teeth are serious and must be treated by a medical professional - and if you think it's not infected, but just want it out, you should still have a professional handle it for you. Why do you not want to go to a dentist? Is it fear or the cost that bothers you? If it's fear, I can tell you from personal experience that going to a dentist is nothing to fear these days - they have embraced modern technology, and it'll be over within less than one minute. As well, they'll give you a numbing shot; which you will not even feel because it'll be done way in the back where you won't even feel it. I was a dental-phobic for years, then had to have all my bottom teeth in the back extracted, and the dentist did them all at once! It was over in less than two minutes, and I didn't feel a thing from the shots on! I said that if I had known it was gonna be that easy, I'd have gone a lot sooner and probably could've saved my teeth. If it's the cost, you can have it done at a county clinic at no charge if you are not employed. Good luck, and don't do it yourself OneOfTheDifference ________________________________________________ "They will never make a perfect heart until they make one that can't be broken." .......
