What is the recommended length for hair to be before any type of dreading begins? I understand that hair can be dreaded at any point but at what length does it become the most effective/successful?
Tis True Short Hair Will Dread, But If It's Too Short, As The Dreads Lock And Shrink It Tends To Stand Upright Like A Porcupine In The Mating Season... I Would Suggest About 6 inches Minimum. Cheers Glen.
Well I had dread for 6 years. I started after I could have a head ful of individual braids. If you start really early they are gonna be twists and have a worm type look going. So I would wait until your at a decent braid length
...Assuming that this person wants to twist their hair which sometimes is not effective on caucasoid hair. The longer the hair, the easier it will lock up. That's the general rule. Everything else is left to hair type and nature. The FAQ may address this more, it is located in the thread called "read this before posting". Also, there are pics I drew on the subject of length in this thread: http://www.hipforums.com/newforums/showthread.php?t=384124&highlight=knotty+physics&page=2
As far as neglect goes, judging from my hair and someone with similar hair, the longer the faster. With length you'll also end up with slightly fatter locks. Personally, having let it lock pretty short once, I'm going to grow until I have an impressive pony tail in it's own right, and THEN go neglect.
