Went to Lowe's hardware to exchange something. I stuck my foot outside the car and was like yeah it's hot I'll just walk fast. Got about 10 feet from the car and was like oh HELL no and literally jogged back to the car and had to put on my flops. I'm betting the surface of that asphalt was at least 180° F.

Concrete I can tolerate, and even older gray asphalt to some extent, but not relatively new, black asphalt. Hope I don't have any blisters now... :(

I am very glad that we don't really get those temps up here, even on a very "hot" (for us) day, I can easily walk or even stand on new, black asphalt, no problems. What gets me is all the stones in my subdivision, all over the roads and sidewalks. They are still building in my subdivision, so it is a bit ridiculous. I find them very difficult to get used to, as they are not on dirt, which has give, but on the concrete/asphalt. I hope my feet will toughen up some more!

this reminds me of last weekend ..I went to a concert and we had parked quite a long ways away...my damn shoes were hurting my feet so much I took them off and went barefoot...then as we got to houses i walked off the side because the grass felt so damn nice then all of a sudden I took a few steps in someones driveway and they must have used some kind of crushed rock it felt like glass shards

Yeah no kidding, some people's driveways are really badly done, at least for barefooters. It seems worse when you come right off grass, I swear wet/damp grass softens up my soles, as well as making it easier for those sharp little pebbles to stay on for multiple steps!

Can't complain too much, I do own a pair of sandals. If I choose not to use them, there will be upsides and downsides, hopefully the upsides will always win.

Yeah I think I have some blisters on the balls of my feet now, but it's really from starting the Couch 2 5K running program this morning. Even though I've been barefooting for about 3 months now, I think my form might have been a bit messed up and the balls of my feet got rubbed raw. Not enjoying it now as it hurts to walk barefoot. :(

once i worked in a place near to a black road that still makes my standard of hot pavements. maybe it was just little air flowing in that point , but those mere 50 feet of ink dark tar were hellish. they literally gave me shivers of pain when i trode over it near 1:30 pm , yet i never got blisters from that. with time even that became bearable, but it was still just a 50-60 feet long stroll.

Patrick, I don't know where you live but I live in SE Texas and it has been really hot, daily highs 103-105 for the last three weeks. it does not even cool off at night with lows 80-82.

even the dead grass is hot. LOL
