Overall, I believe national pride does little good. I have appreciation and am grateful of where I live, which is why I still live here but pride has a fine line between it and arrogance, so I try not to tread too closely to it. That being said: I have felt national pride before and it always strikes me as a bit odd when it happens because, it just happens as some emotional reaction. Like on certain national holidays, when everyone is warm and fuzzy and waving flags/beers. Or when standing by a cenotaph on a cold Nov morning.
Naturally, being a Pommie, i.e. an arch American Poodle, you'd know better than former Australia Prime Ministers that the U.S. has interfered in Australian politics and/or elections since Britain and the U.S installed that military moron, General “Dugout Doug” MacArthur, as military dictator of Oz in 1942. *the man who profited most from the CIA dismissal of the Whitlam Government.
In America, the liberals have done everything they could to striped America of anything to be proud of. They are a miserable bunch that do not deserve to live in America. They need to go live in Russia or China for a few years to learn how good they have it. Maybe then they will appreciate what they take fro granted. I guarantee that they will totally disagree with this comment. But that is why they are brain dead. Lips flapping in the wind.
a striped america is one we can all be proud of america should never take the fro for granted, the seventies were when american hair ruled the world, and we shall never forget . . . . . . something . . . now that is the most interesting cause-and-effect argument i may have ever read! [thank you]
But can one not be proud of what one's country built? Seems to me what you describe is self pride, but the op refers to pride in one's country, not self.
Born & raised in Canada. I use to love this country, but over the past few years I have grown tired of it. There are many aspects I still love, but as a whole I really don`t care about it anymore...Of course my feelings changed for this country shortly after our Conservative government took over. What`s worse is the Conservatives are poised for a majority.
Less and less. I don't recognize the Canada I used to love anymore, it's scary. I never considered it would be a good thing for Quebec to become independant, but with the way conservatives rule the country I start to think so.
I used to be very proud of it in a lot of ways. There were a lot of things about it that really disgusted me as well... but it was definately on the postive side... Not today... and I highly doubt the next four years are going to improve my view from here. After that... well... I doubt anyone is going to be in the position to question how bad of a choice was just made, or that there will be much anyone can do about it by then.
Countries in general are just a terrible idea. Why must We draw imaginary lines to provide a security which We all know to be false. It only serves to complicate travel, disrupting the lives & freedom of many, and overall, hindering Oneness.
I'm proud to be American because we have so many ethnicities and cultures together trying to make this country right. No other place is like it in the world. When i went to college we only had 6,000 students but we had 144 different languages! I love that about America. I also am proud to be American because of the 2nd amendment. We are one of the last countries where the people have the right to bear arms and protect themselves. Too many countries cannon't protect themselves against tyranny giving the government complete control over them. Though their are loads of problems that i don't want to get into but overall im proud to be American, we have great people in this country, its just the political leaders are a damn mafia and corrupt as any human gets.
