In regards to medical cannabis; where would our resources and effort be more productive. A nationwide survey by ABC and the Washington Post taken last January showed that 81% of Americans support medical cannabis. The results were fairly equal among age groups and political parties. So that is the poll question, do we keep fighting state by state or do we focus our efforts at Washington.
I truly believe if the feds changed their laws the states would follow quicker then if we fight state by state. It would also help user's of medical cannabis with employers such as WALMART who use as their defense that they are following federal guidelines for drug free work place when they fire employee's who are following state law. There is already a bill in place to change federal law H.R. 2835 but it's been stuck in committee for a while now. We could pool our resources against one foe instead of groups trying to decide which state their money would be best spent that year.
If enough states decriminalize like has been done here in MA, I think it would really FORCE the feds to change their laws. I really take for granted being able to light up and not even have to worry about *prison*. If a state *legalized*, well then it would just be a title wave effect. Sadly there's the people who won't vote to legalize because they can't make money if it is. Most people I know prefer the "decriminalization" method. It just increases demand and prices. am i going off topic? lol But yeah I think legalizing in one state will force the issue onto the federal level, and one state is easier. I mean, California's horribly flawed bill almost passed!!
I voted for Federal since states that have NOT legalized MEDICAL marijuana are net IMPORTERS of pot from West Coast Marijuana Farms in National Forests and even on Private vacation properties. Out here, these farms are armed and dangerous, with booby traps for mountain bikers, tree huggers, and hunters. So, because of states who refuse to legalize it, this creates a safety hazard for the Western states. So, it's a federal issue. Make MEDICAL Marijuana Legal in all 50 states, and the price comes down ... and the armed drug camps would go away. The violence and Shootings on the Mexico / US border would also go away. However since the current president is not a *PROGRESSIVE* Democrat (key word progressive) then I don't expect at return to the days of Thomas Jefferson who *WAS* a Progressive (which simply means favoring progress, and reform).
