An article I stumbled onto might explain a little of what you're up against. I realize this is in Japan, but the situation isn't much different here either.

The fact is, that now science is working on "sex androids" to take the place of women. Japan, I believe is currently the leader, but a company in NJ is also working on one and does have a working model. Anatomically correct, with artificial muscles that duplicate a woman's anatomy. They're not going to make women obsolete, but they certainly are going to make it more difficult for a woman to get into a desired relationship with a man.

It may not be as satisfying as a woman, but apparently it is satisfying enough to forego a relationship with a woman. Seems the day may come when women will have to re-think their "passive role". In increasing numbers, men are turning to machines rather than women because of the demands women put on a relationship.

Some 4,000 men have laid out $7,000 to order a robot for sex and companionship. And, the number is going up.

 

This will happen more and more. It comes down to men being lazy. Some of it is on the women but not all.

 

These men obviously have trouble seeing what a real woman gives them that an android doesn't. Who can blame them?

If anything, that article just shows what bullshit some social norms are. A lot of guys don't want to go out to a boring meal and foot the (considerably too large) bill on the off-chance that they'll get lucky, and maybe herpies, or maybe get fired when THAT harpie knows a harpie who knows his boss.... or WHATEVER.......

The whole social game is bullshit, and that's all those guys are saying. I think if I got one of those free, I'd have a rather good time.... No way I'd pay money for them, but.... ya know.....

Relationships are great. But nowadays "relationship" means a lot of shit that has nothing to do with a relationship, just social games that have been pushed faaaaar beyond where they should.

There's something more at work in Japan (and here) than men's dissatisfaction with women or vice versa. These forums are a great example of what I'm talking about. People are having less and less physical interaction with each other, and I'm not talking about just sex. I observed a friend of mine, just last night, texting her next door neighbor - both of them were outside, sitting on their decks - less than 50 yards away. I pointed this strange behavior out to her and she just laughed and said "I fucking now, right? What can I say? I'm tired and I don't feel like walking over there and getting into a whole thing with her"

We work too fucking much. I'm exhausted by the end of the day - mostly from the stress. During the work week, I get home and I don't want to do a damn thing. It's stress. Now imagine you're a salary man, working 80 hours a week, dealing with all kinds of stress and uncertainty. All that emotion and frustration from work just taps 'em out and they don't have anything left to give a woman. It's not that women are too demanding - it's just that the time demands are large enough to wanna say "fuck it. I don't have the time or the resources to emotionally satisfy a woman so I'm staying single and I'm going to go buy a sex doll and live like a damn hermit." I think women are starting to feel the same way.

Of course it doesn't work - it's just high tech masturbation, so there's going to be that void that sex toys, dating sims, sex dolls etc. (that's right, dating sims) can't fill. Japan has an aging population (so does the U.S.) that means more old people to take care of, and less young people with less time to do it. Honestly, I think going to be the biggest social issue of our time - at least with regard to these aging societies. And it's going to get worse - fewer and fewer children are going to be born as a result - which is good in the sense that it will slow population growth in these two societies, but it's really going to do nothing in the long run for the world population explosion. The U.S. is in decline. My generation will be the first to have a shorter lifespan than my parents - the same is probably true in Japan and certain European countries. Seventy years ago there we didn't have 10-20 nursing homes per 40,000 people. We had larger homes, where grandma and grampa would come to stay and help raise their grandkids and live out the rest of their lives in the company of their son's and daughters - not stuck in a dorm room, sharing a toilet with a complete stranger. That pretty much sums up the final years of the middle class elderly where I live. How about you?

I mostly stopped going to the pubs and bars here because nobody fucking talks anymore. They just sit there and drink and maybe try to mutter something over the ever present television, or background music that's anything but in the background. And club's? Have you ever tried to strike up a conversation in a damn club with someone? I lose my damn voice in less than an hour. It's like there some grand conspiracy out there to alienate people from each other. I think that's why festivals seem like such a magical place - you know - like the parking lot scene. You walk around and meet people - actually talk and interact with them or even camp next them - ah but how many venues do you know that no longer allow camping in their parking lots? How many venues do you know that stopped allowing people to vend? It's like - go to the show - get the show going as soon as possible and get em the fuck out of there.

I mean there are still a lot cool scenes and festival left, but for how long? You get more than 10 people together at one time in a damn city park and the cops start driving by, eyeballing you. I don't know, I just feel like somethings slipping away, or being taken away by subtle degrees - so subtle that we don't recognize the malevolence in the taking of it.

You're right it's hardly a trend, yet. But I predict (and it's just a prediction) that this sort of thing is going to become more commonplace. As far as the female version of this - I can't really speak too authoritatively on Japanese women, but I think here in the west, female lesbianism and bi-sexuality has become quite fashionable. When I was in college I knew alot of what some people like to call "4 year lesbians". I also knew a lot of genuine lesbians and that's where I learned that term. For a long time, I just concluded that it was just college experimentation - but something about the "coolness" factor (which men have undoubtedly contributed to) kind of bothered me. Here in the states, male homosexuality or bisexuality is not as main stream as female homosexuality/bisexuality. I think that's starting to change a little, but bottom line - I think there are a lot more women exploring same sex sexuality more openly than men. So that MIGHT have something to do with what we're talking about. I know a lot of "loner" men - the kind of males for whom I think these dolls are marketed to, but it's rare to find "loner" women. Even if they are socially awkward towards men, they seem to have no problem relating to other women. I think a lot of men lack that kind of kinship with other males - even when they have male friends. So to take this a step further - if lesbianism is less taboo, in this country, it would seem logical that some of these potentially "loner" women might find lesbianism an adequate or even preferable choice. But here again, I have to emphasize that I AM NOT suggesting that All, or even many, lesbians choose to be lesbians (or even have a choice) simply because they have issues with men. I don't believe that GENUINE homosexuality is a result of social conditioning - people are just born gay or bi, I'm convinced of that. I also believe that there are people who make a conscious choice to experiment, but invariably return to whatever place they feel at home with on the sexuality spectrum.

and i've encountered zero problem meeting men in my life, including guys who really wanted a serious romantic relationship with me when i didnt, so i really dont think sex toys are gonna replace us women any time soon. we're humans, we have more to offer than a plastic doll, and men dont all live to just have sex, they like having a good friend to share life with.
