What kind of worries me in all this, is that we might inadvertently become suspects by association with threads like this on the internet. I know a story about some guy in Scotland who recently made some comments on facebook about Neil Lennon, the Celtic manager who has been receiving death threats and bombs in the post. Two days later the police turned up at his door asking questions..
Don't worry about it, threads like this are all over the Internet, with people discussing Anonymous. And you can be sure it's being monitored by someone, anyway as usual around here.
Yeah, don't kid yourself. I guarantee that someone from the FBI is monitoring this thread. And to that person I put the question "How are you feeling about YOUR liberty right about now?" The day we allow ourselves to be afraid to openly say anything in this nation is the day that this nation becomes no different than North Korea. I refuse to be intimidated by the people I employ. Remember these assholes are supposed to be working for us, for our benefit, and they need to be reminded of it, and frequently. In my not-so-humble opinion - this is exactly the point that Anon is trying to make. You can call them cyber terrorist, but let me remind you of one fact. The difference between terrorist/terrorism and freedom fighter/revolution is perspective. Take the BOA example - Bank of America was (and I have no doubt continues) to break the fucking law of the land. Who regulates it? Who's coming down on BOA in a meaningful way - I'm not talking about some piss ant fine that they've already accounted for in their risk management report. BOA's lawyers know how to get around the law - and that's why they recruit the best and even if they do something they can't skirt around, they self regulate! They lobby and have the laws and loop holes written in their favor. They can do this kind of crap with a $6,000 campaign contribution - that's nothing - they can cover that in a millisecond with the unbridled and unregulated usury they practice. YOUR GOVERNMENT IS IMPOTENT. INDUSTRY IS SELF REGULATED. The damn EPA (Nixon's clever little fuck you to the environmentalist movement) is a SHAM! Do you know where the EPA get's most of it's funding? LICENSING FEES - in other words, they get money for allowing polluters to pollute - that's their primary stream of income - THAT IS INDUSTRY SELF REGULATION in a round about shell-game kind of way. That kind of industry regulation is designed with CORRUPTION in mind. If your ever in doubt or dumbfounded by something a privateer does (and that's all these pharma, banking and energy giants are - a bunch of pirates) just dig around and see who gets paid. Don't rely on the media to illuminate this for you - because they are in on it. I predict that this government will do its best to figuratively bomb Anon and Wikileaks back to the stoneage - wipe them off the face of the earth - because there IS NO GREATER THREAT to the military industrial complex than the truth - because if it gets out to enough people and spreads (and it is spreading like wild fire right now) the serfs aren't going to stand for it - and believe me if enough serfs get fed up with being sodomized by a government that has betrayed them - there will be change, and it won't be peaceful. Right now, enough people are still dazzled and distracted by the fake ass wrestling match going on in D.C. - it's a soap opera folks - a distraction - the old divide and conquer bit, oh and it works so well to keep the serfs cheering from the sidelines, (are you rooting for FAUX NEWS OR MSNBC?) but doing little else of any real consequence - but more and more people are waking up to the fact that the game is rigged, that the ball isn't under any of the cups - it's not even on the table - it never was - it's been in the palm the whole time.
Speaking of Bank of America... they've long been regarded as part of the fascist state, financing America's Wars based on Lies. Once upon a time students did something about it... Today's students would rather get a job with Bank of America than take issue with their politics.
Great video! "When the government shuts down the Internet, shutdown the government..." Hummm... where have I heard that before? Non-violent resistance to corporate/government fascism is the way to go. I think the government would be smart to see this whole movement as free speech and just ignore it, so long as there is no violence. No real damage is done other than to corporate reputations which are defended constantly with bailouts and deregulation under corporate run governments. Bring corporations under control of the people, as it should be, and things will improve. Corporations and their leaders should not be immune to action by the people if they subvert democracy (in so many ways) anywhere on the planet. News Corp being a prime example of what I'm talking about. So the non-violent pie-thrower was justified with his action, imo. He represented the feelings of thousands, if not millions of people. It was HUMBLE PIE, delivered direct from The People to you, Mr. Murdock! It will be very interesting to see how this pie-thrower gets treated in England vs how these Anonymous cyber-protesters get treated in the USA.
Or they could look at it as a free way to test the security of their online databases, to give them both peace of mind that information is truly safely locked up in a basement somewhere in a desert and if it's not, an opportunity to tighten up their firewalls so it doesn't happen in the future, with perhaps devastating consequences. It's amazing what effect a little piece of information in the wrong hands can have in today's world. They could even look at is an opportunity to listen to the people and make some changes, but I doubt that will happen.
Well if each incident generates more publicity, and then a trial, which I doubt they can keep secret, (otherwise it would be a kangaroo court), it can only serve as a recruiting tool for Anonymous. I believe it when Anonymous state that they can't be defeated. The people united, will never be defeated. That is a law of nature, just like: You can't fool all of the people all of the time. So has the time come for the people to take back the power that's been stolen from them? Or will they sit on the sidelines expecting yet another election to make a difference?
One of the meanings of "civil disobedience" is breaking the law. Not just randomly breaking the law but breaking laws that have no right to exist in the first place. Gandhi's making salt, which was illegal, as an example.
It's pretty hard to take down an organization that is not centrally located anywhere... it's the same with Al Qaeda.. only difference is when the middle east gets bombed it doesn't effect me.. when the government starts cracking down on internet usage or what you can do on the internet.. because a bunch of prepubescent teens dick around on the internet not really doing anything but messing up peoples lives.. that does effect me.. in the end.. whats the difference between these guys and Rupert Murdock?.. they both hack into peoples PRIVATE lives and reek havoc on innocent people.. "they took down bad corporations websites though".... yeah and released 100,000's emails and passwords of mostly innocent bystanders.. or even better yet.. whats the difference between Anonymous and the US military? Just because these people worked for Visa/Mastercard doesn't mean that they were the ones that pulled the plug on Wikileaks.. that's like going over to the middle east and just shooting people because there are terrorists in the middle east.. best just shoot whomever you see just in case.. sure one people are getting killed.. another peoples personal information is being released.. still in the end.. innocent lives are being fucked an eye for an eye just leaves the world blind
Jokerman, I think you're confused as to who did what and why. Most of the attacks that took place by Anonymous were just ddos attacks, which just blocked access to the site for awhile. I think LulzSec hacked some corps and certain individuals may have obtained data and thereafter released it, but this was part of a process as I understand it. They warn companies first that their data is insecure and give them time to fix it. Then if they can still hack in, they prove it by releasing data. Data that doesn't harm anyone if they change their passwords. That not to say that a specific individual did not release harmful data, but I have never seen that as the intent of Anonymous. I think in only one recent case was there any release of CC #s. Those are what the Russian and other money grubbing hackers go for. Also it's becoming more clear that certain attacks have come from OTHER GOVERNMENTS, like China. Those have done far more damage than anything done by Anonymous or LulzSec to American security. The US may soon see these attacks as an act of war, at least once the US has the capacity to counter attack, which I don't think it had until recently. A better question is what is the difference between Anonymous' actions and those of the CIA/NSA who hack into innocent Americans' computers everyday like it's nothing. They break laws, ignore privacy rights, record everything people do and say. They actually foment violence in foreign countries with their Internet activity and support for rebels wherever, whenever it suits them (in other words there's profit to be made by the US industrial complex) The big difference is Anonymous' actions don't kill people, but the CIA/NSA use the Internet to kill and overthrow regimes they don't like.
Do you actually know anything about anonymous and what it does? The fact that you have to ask such ludicrous questions suggests to me that you really have no idea what you are talking about. Brush up. It really sounds like you've been buying the bullshit.
That makes sense, at any other job your employer can check in on you any time they wish while you are working, and check on when you are working. Since they are "public servants" we should all be able to watch them. The internet makes it possible for there to be a channel for every single member of the house, senate and supreme court and the president.
Interestingly, one of the companies that provides such services to the Spy agencies was itself hacked by LulzSec, I believe. It happened about a month ago I think.
And strangely, they go the other direction - toward confidentiality and privacy, with the ability to spy on those they work for.
Yeah, it's like if you went to your boss and said "hey, stay out of my office, don't expect anything but an automated reply if you try to contact me, and also I'm going to screen your emails, later!"
