Im not sure how long its been, but im having trouble getting to sleep. I have tried closing my eyes, reading, having a hot drink, and nothing i do works, i dont know what else to try, im worried il end up needing pills to sleep, does anybody have any ideas or suggestions?
Chamomile tea...or anything with chamomile in it. The properties of chamomile make you drowsy and tired. Good luck!
Exercise. Physical exhaustion works every time. I've had my share of times where for weeks and sometimes months i could not sleep. I worked for a shipping company at one point for a solid year. The work shifts were only 4 or 5 hours starting at 5pm. After i got off i was always tired. My body was tired but my mind was racing after the shift. Once i sat down and relaxed for the night to let my mind slow down it was very easy to sleep. My body was desperately asking me to rest. Still today if i go all day and don't really do much i accumulate all this energy and when its time to sleep even if i've been up for 15 hours, i'm really not very tired. If i do a hard workout a few hours before bed it is ALWAYS easier to fall asleep.
I try to do breathing meditation while lying down with my eyes closed. It works if you know how to meditate.
You mean self-hypnotise. I would have to say the only gauranteed way of being tired is to tire yourself out in the day through exercise; both mental and physical. Try to adopt a philosophy whereby you make an extra effort in both areas, knowing that any action you undertake will add to your sleeping soundly that night. Trouble sleeping is often a symptom of another problem in your life, the trouble itself is not the cause. So sleeping pills do not make sense.
you may want to read "Curing Insomnia Naturally with Chinese Medicine" ( www.bluepoppy.com under the "books for the layperson" section ) you can also try getting this from a library also, I think you may be able to read chapters from this book on google books http://books.google.com/books?id=Z-PZHy1K9bwC&lpg=PP1&pg=PP1#v=onepage&q&f=false the theoretical elements of this are probably not going to make much sense, but the practical advice would probably help I think that there may be an acupressure self-massage described in the book. if so, do it by the point names rather than the diagrams. that is, verify the point locations from other sources ( online, for example). bob flaws books tend to have very good info but very bad editing and diagrams hope that things get better soon!
Valerian will help with sleep. I have suffered from spurts of anxiety where i have trouble sleeping, medication worked for a while but i have weened myself off of it. i do not drink caffeine after lunch unless it is 1 cup of green tea in the afternoon. I generally read for 30 mins or so before i go to sleep. I also go to sleep around 11 and wake up around 7 every day, even weekends. I think my body has gotten used to this cycle.
I know few ways to make me sleepy: 1. a long walk - I get tired and I'm in fresh air, what really helps. 2. hot milk, may be with honey. 3. eat raisins. For example if you read a book during a day, you just eat raisins then, like peanuts.
I always lay for about a hour before I can fall asleep. I say sleep naked is is super comfortable and try exercising during the day cus it calms the mind so when you lay in bed your thoughts flow easier.
probably psychological. anxiety for example. or it could be some kind of disturbance to your usual sleep-wake cycle that is messing it up. if for example you spent a day going to sleep much later than usual, it could throw off your sleep onset time. if it's anxiety related, what works with that is to clear your mind completely of anything, trying not to think of anything at all, then you usually fall asleep pretty quick after going to bed.
I suck at sleeping, even when (or especially when) I need it most. Teas have never worked for me, the only thing that seems to cure it is meditation music or soothing ambient - if I didn't have that I might need pills as well. Maybe try one of those guided meditations specifically made for sleeping. They're really, really good.
Hi! If You still have problems with sleep, maybe this article I found would be interesting for You: http://zazna.com/RpliNGNlN2/How-to-...for-Getting-a-Good-Night%E2%80%99s-Sleep.html
Have you tried melatonin ? It's sold in the grocery and drug stores next to the vitamins and supplements.
Maybe some minor OTC meds could work, like ambien, nightquil or my personal favorite, i take at least 4 Dramaine pills to help me sleep. those are minor meds than Sequel, Tempzepam , trazadone etc. just a thought.....Ryan
I used to take those when I had trouble sleeping. They didn't help me so, I'm not sure how others will be affected by it.
hot tea, breathing control, meditation, reading, repetitive tactile tasks (braiding hemp, chinese medicine balls, etc), herbal extracts (valerian root, kava kava, etc.) and of course good ole mary jane :sifone:
4 cups milk 4 teaspoons honey 1 teaspoon vanilla extract dash of freshly grated nutmeg. Something about the chemical reaction that takes place when the milk is warmed produces a relaxing effect. We also find wearing a set of eyeshades helps induce sleep. So does a back rub...
