I'm in the NJ area, and would like to join a commune, live off the land etc. I am 24 years old, and cannot find a job, keep up with my student loans, and am generally tired of mainstream life. Does anyone know of anywhere I could go to live out my dream? Living on a commune off the grid seems really appealing to me, and I would love to learn how to grow my own food etc. I am in Southern NJ, and have no transportation, which puts a damper on things. I am young, willing to work, and am fairly intelligent, but would need to learn about farming and so forth. Can anyone help me out?
Hey, I'm also in NJ and lived in a commune before, have mad skills, lived in the mountains surviving off the land, and hope to go back or start something once I take care of a few things first. Write like 25 more posts so you can message people, then we can chat. Peace
As am I. Things are very stagnant presently in spite of consistent looking to get [further] enmeshed in society, and leaving it all for a simple life is not only appealing, but making too much sense / is the "effortless" choice at this point... A commune where I both am of good work use for and fit in / get along with those there, or traveling partner / defender, etc... I don't know. No need to limit to one type of outcome as far as this area goes...
I knew i wasn't alone in feeling this way. I just feel like there's nothing in society for me, no job, I can't afford to go back to school. I want to get started, but I don't know where to begin.
I have been in the same sinking ship. College seems like it will get me nothing that I care for. I am deciding what my next move will be. I don't know if I want to travel the United States, clearing my head for a bit, or join a commune. A commune seems like the logical choice for the comforts of a home and the support of others, and the sustainable living aspect is truly what I feel everyone should try to pursue. Let's start one!
Take useful classes like archaeology and anthropology. Yoga is a good calss if they still have it. I took it for PE credits. Nutrition, geology are useful for finding minerals and staying healthy. I never understood the rigid curriculum of majors colleges demand. People should be well rounded and discovering their interests and talents. Especially younger students.
