So what christmas tree did you get? Real or fake? I like the fake ones..because those poky things dont fall from them, and plus I dont know, its kinda weird just to get a real one, use it for a couple weeks, then throw it out! Plus fake trees you can use over and over agaiN! This year, we got a real small one, like maybe 2 feet..wel maybe not even that big, and its one of them fiber optic ones! It just sits on our VCR next to our tv! So how bout yall?
I decorated one of the pine trees by the road infront of our house because we can't have on in the house due to all the animals...but when we have a tree it's usually a real one because my mom loves the smell.
in my apartment, i have a white fiberoptic thing that entertains me for hours...it has all pink ornaments on it... at my parent's house, we had a real tree, up until a year ago at which point my mother decided to be blasephemous and purchase a fake tree, which i hate! it's the same principal, but doesnt smell as good as a real one
seeing as I'm staying at my cousin's and they already owned 2 small fake ones. 1 is a white fiber optic tree that turns around. The other one is green & slightly bigger. 1 big tree wouldn't fit in the trailer.
well we always used real ones, then fake ones fer a while. i didn't want one this year cause it's kind of stupid, putting a tree in yer house and all. but my brothers wanted one so my dad got (a real) one. he got a tree skirt today and it was like five bucks, but still too small, and he was bitchin about it and i asked him what it was fer and he said just to put presents and stuff on. gee, you coulda saved all that money, buying a freaking tree, then lights and ornaments, and a skirt (or two...) and bought more presents. way to go, assholes.
A tree is a symbol. http://ww2.netnitco.net/users/legend01/xmastree.htm Kind of a grisly symbol really if you believe what this website says. Basically, if you're pagan don't get a pine tree, get an oak. If smell is a symbol over liveness, they make a spray for that. I have an artsy tree, looks like a redwood I keep it around all year and dress it up christmassy for this holiday. Now that I read that I might never get a pine tree for my house, it just doesn't seem Christian but I'll figure that out when my kids "pine" for one. hahahahahaha
Haha, what are you doing with 3 trees? We don't have one yet... if we don't have one by the weekend, I'm gonna steal Kayla's idea and make one out of cardboard
There's one in our front room, the one that presents go under. Then there's a bigger one in our sunroom, and finally there's a small one near the dining room. I don't know.
My parents had a real tree the first Christmas they were married but decided it was too much agro with the needles and such that they got a fake one the next year. So our tree is 23 years and counting, still looks fine although missing a branch. I thought of getting a dinky one for my room, but haven't got round to it.
Larry and I don't celebrate Christmas with a tree. But when my kids were young I had trees and one year we went out to the woods and found a tree that had fallen and was dead with no needles. We brought it home and painted it white with spray paint. We put little pine cones all over it, strung cranberries, and tiny blue lights, it was beautiful. No smell...but no needles either and it was free.
i believe in the use of artificial trees- you can make them look just as good as normal ones... and to be honest.. i really dont see the difference in the "beauty" or a normal tree... it leaves a major mess.. and it a threat to our environment. in canada, they were having a shortage. and its my home place so i heard bout it. is it really worth it?
At my house we always use an artificial tree because it is so much easier and it kind of seems like a pity to waste a good tree by cutting it down. I thought it was interesting that in the site Bobbinbecca posted it mentioned the cult of Cybele. The cult was actually pretty messed up, Attis who was supposed to be the first member of the cult worked himself into a frenzy and trance like state. He then proceded to castrate himself. Catullus describes it as removing the weight of his manhood. That is how men would join the cult. They would get in a big circle and start dancing and when one of them got the nerve, they would pick up a sword in the middle of the circle and procede to castrate themselves. "Each year on March 22, members of the cult of Cybele cut down a pine tree and carried it to the Palatine temple" Sorry, it seems kind of out of place talking about this in a thread about christmas trees but when I read the article it made me think about that.
