Awesome Album. It is kinda sad that they accused The Offspring of "selling out" for this one. All songs from "The End of the Line" onwards are awesome. Too bad they chose to make two of the worst songs, "Pretty Fly" and "Why Don't You Get a Job" into videos. yeah, it was an influential album for me.... used to listen to it a lot when i was 13.
yeah i was 13 too. i think the best song is "kids aren't alright" although i admit that it was pretty fly that caught my attention first. hey it's better than destiny's child or eminem!
actually the video for " The Kids Aren't All Right" caught my attention. BTW, "Ignition" was my first album ever. And yes, The Offspring is a good band for those that wish to make the transition from Pop to other genres of music. I really like Brian "Dexter" Holland for the fact that he was the valedictorian in High School and went on to get a Ph.D degree.
Subhumans, the day the country died. I wont say its the greatest punk album ever made but it was made with style and an almost ska kinda beat, and it taught me to think for myself. I still am in the military and still eat meat, so Dick failed in that respect. But he and his words still made me , make me think for myself, and to look at everyside of any situation. I did happen to meet Dick once, well all of Citizen Fish, at a show. its not too great a story so i have decided not to add it, but he was a very polite and cool cat.
The Beatles - 'Red Album' First album I ever heard, or remember hearing. First I used to play all by myself - Big gatefold LP and everything, it was great. Looking back I suppose the red album is quite the introduction to guitar based music. There's genius melodies start to finish. Nirvana - In Utero First album I bought...It was a friend of my brother's got me into Nirvana, simply by coming round and playing their songs on the guitar...Which reminds me: Dire Straits - Alchemy Mark Knopfler was the man responsible for me picking up a guitar ...Soon went out and bought all the other Nirvana albums and loved them. Still do to this day. Although musically it didn't really turn me on to much of the same. I investigated obviously, but nothing ever lasted. Oasis - Definitely Maybe In one edition of MTV News I learned of Kurt Cobain's suicide and Oasis' debut single 'Supersonic'. Oasis didn't seem like the replacement at the time. But I was pretty gutted and the Supersonic chourus was a wee pick-me-up I guess. Oasis opened the musical door wider than Nirvana did and the collection soon ballooned...So some highlights would be... The Beatles - Revolver David Bowie - Space Oddity & Hunky Dory The Velvet Underground - The Velvet Underground & WL/WH & & Nico! The Beta Band - Hot Shots II Super Furry Animals - Radiator Air - Moon Safari Certainly development...You can almost make out where pot overtook alcohol as the drug of choice

Tommy (Based on the album's story line, it managed to touch upon subjects that musicians have never really delved into....hah, maybe I'm just saying this b/c I happen to be a psych. major.) Led Zeppelin IV (A whole book was written & based on this album, as well as before & after the release of it. Then again, it was solely the author's opinion....but I just happen to like the album.)
Are You Experienced ~ Jimi Hendrix. First cd I remember listening to, and if it's not, it's still the cd that got me to pick up a guitar. Live At Berkeley ~ Jimi Hendrix. This is the cd that keeps me playing guitar. Lennon Legend ~ John Lennon. Just a great man, who made great music... 'nuff said The White Album ~ The Beatles. Doesn't really need explaining... Those are the four that keep me playing music and keep pushing me to keep playining...
I dont understand how you people can put compilation albums as an influential album?? such as beatles 1 or the beatles red album? when I think of influential albums, they are those that a band intends to make. they write and record songs for a release, and that release is influential on many fans and bands... usually that album causes many people to start their own bands..... greatest hits albums are usually put together by a music company with little or no effort from the band... how can that be influential?? with that in mind, the most influential album has to be: velvet underground & nico - self titled debut (1967) others: The Beatles - white album (1968)
Oasis - (What's The Story) Morning Glory The first album i ever bought when i was 8. The Beatles - The Blue Album 1967-1970 This album was the start of my beatles obsession, when i was 12. Aphex Twin - Drukqs This album got me into aphex twin and IDM. Brian Eno - Apollo: Atmospheres And Soundtracks This album got me into ambient music. Joy Divison - Unknown Pleasures The start of an obsession with joy division. Radiohead - The Bends / Kid A Made me interested in indie rock and more experimental music. Pink Floyd - The Piper At The Gates Of Dawn This album got me into 60s music, especially psychedelia. Various Artists - Nuggets Vol.I: Original Artyfacts Of The First Psychedelic Era Made me check out more obscure sixties music and garage compilations. The Velvet Underground & Nico - The Velvet Underground & Nico My favourite album of all time. other mentions: Bob Dylan - Highway 61 Revisited The Byrds - Sweetheart Of The Rodeo The Jesus And The Mary Chain - Psychocandy Love - Forever Changes Doves - The Last Broadcast Björk - Vespertine Boards Of Canada - Music Has The Right To Children
The point of the thread was most influential albums on your own taste in music. Had it been most influence album full stop I'd probably have put something really predictable like a VU album too
