hey, i'm learning to knit too, i taught myself. i found a website that has lots of free easy patterns, and it also has directions for just about every stitch i've heard of and more. theres also and index of terms and abbreviations, which i've printed out and use all the time so i can read the patters! lol, good luck i hope it helps you:)

I, too, am learning to knit. I would love to be able to make my own sweaters!
I was in Michael's craft store last night and I saw the book "Knitting for Dummies". I may just ask for that for Christmas because, hey, I'm a dummy. ;)

When it comes to knitting I'll admit I'm a moron. Oh I can just plain knit and tried to make a neice a scarf years ago for Christmas, but when it came time to tie it off & take it off the knitting needles I couldn't do it right and it unraveled. HaHaHaHa I could of had the world's longest scarf if I had just left the needles attached to the ends.

I learned how to crotchet while in 4th grade, but don't do it much anymore.

I'm a newbie to this site, but couldn't help but get excited when I saw this thread. I love to knit and crochet--maybe even hope to one day make it a source of income. But for now it just makes me feel all warm and fuzzy--pun intended!

I would be happy to help anyone with questions, advice or just talk.

i suggest renting a book from the library, or buying one... they run from 8-15 dollars... get a kid oriented one, they seem to be less confusing with detailed photos. Knitting is so much fun!!! i also suggest crochet if you cant pick up on knitting. hope this helps and good luck!!

I get really bored knitting clothes. I knit all the really cute toys in Jean Greenhowe's patterns. I'm knitting an octopus with different coloured sox atm.

If I can knit, anyone can knit; and I'm left handed, too. I've made a scarf and I am working on a shawl for myself.

Remember only 2 stitches, knit, purl......get a beginners lesson book or even get one off the web; you just need to practice with some cheap acrylic stuff until you get the hang of it and then you are off!!!!
