So I'm moving into a house in august, and I'm trying to figure out what company we want to go through for our cable and internet. I have never had cable before at my parents house or anything and never watch tv, so I just want the cheapest, most basic thing available (my housemates NEED cable tv for whatever reason so i just want like 100 channels or whatever). however, i am living in the house with 8 other people so I would like internet that is fast enough to handle that many people on at once. (plus from what i hear, they all do xbox live and that crap so they'll probably be using up a lot with that as well) i'm mainly looking at verizon and comcast, and i've looked through their bundles and stuff. Verizon is cheaper for their cheapest cable and high speed internet (it says 3.1 to 7mbps which i dont really understand too much- is that fast enough?) The comcast bundle is more expensive but the internet is apparently 15mbps (for the performance thing) and the cable package comes with like on demand and all that stuff i think, it was the cheapest internet/cable bundle. should i look outside verizon and comcast? i've used verizon internet at my parents house and never had any problems. i'd like to only have one bill for cable and internet since we're also paying other utilities and it would be one less thing to have to deal with. i guess basically what im asking is in terms of verizon and comcast, which has faster, more reliable internet that would be suitable for 9 people? i dont care about cable, whatever the cheapest thing i can get is what i'll end up doing for that.
No matter who you go with, you'll probably get stuck in a contract and will end up having your bill go up more and more because of "promotional periods ending." Mine just went up with Charter (owned by Comcast) $20 because I guess I was in a promotional period? And we only have internet and no cable. Your best bet...unless you love tv, get netflix and stream it to your tv via video game systems or bluray player
Whatever you do, stay the hell away from Cable One if you have a choice. I don't have a choice, that's the only cable provider here, but they're horrible. My internet goes down pretty much every day for any time between 10 minutes and several hours. I had cable TV with them, but dropped it when they started adding on bogus fees and charges. They also took $108 from my debit card without my permission and still to this day have yet to explain to us why they did that or what the $108 was even for. But they're one of two internet providers in my area and the other one is DSL and it's even worse. But yeah, avoid the hell out of Cable One if that's an option. Terrible company.
I use Time Warner for my Internet. They're alright, I guess. I think no matter where you go, there will probably be problems, whether the service sucks or the hidden fees, there's always something. I don't have cable. I haven't for years. I kind of miss it, but I've watched a few series by streaming it from netflix. If I were in your position, I would let one of the other roommatea put it in their name, considering you mentioned that you won't even watch the cable. Anyhow, I suggest doing a google search to see what's in your area and read the reviews.
well i dont want cable at all but the other eight people in my house do so im kinda outnumbered with that
have you priced what you are asking for? i think you will be in for a shock you might be better off getting a business package and not a home package
do thaey have that? do you need to prove your a business? wouldnt they figure that out? i dont really live in an area any business would ever be in... the verizon package im looking at now is $65 i think and the comcast one is $70 so split between 9 people thats not too bad
It's really easy to get your own Tax ID and tada! You're a business owner. And then when it comes for tax time, just be honest and tell them you made diddly squat.
they will rape you either way. keep an eye on when your bundle ends and like a week before hand i would call them, threatening to cancel b/c i can't afford it. they usually offer some kind of discount and i get sucked into keeping it. comcast sucks. verizon sucks att sucks. they all suck. but i like my pawn stars and locked up abroad, and i need my xbox live and hipforums. good luck
I have the Verizon Fios package with everything on one bill including my cell phone. They have never screwed me out of any money (that I have found anyway) the way Broadstripe did. Broadstripe was terrible; my internets and phone was constantly going down and they tried to raise the price on me even though I signed up for what they called "Broadstripe Forever" which was supposed to mean they could never raise the price for the service itself. Fuck Broadstripe.
i dont know down there...but up here it is extra for each added pc.. .my base price is aprox 130 bucks from cogeco cable.. ..i get telephone with unlimited NA long distance ..high speed internet[1 pc] ...basic tv[60ish channels ...i hit download maximums every month...each added pc needs its OWN data package....there is no such thing as unlimited bandwith or data packages... did you tell them you need 8 hook ups with data packages on all of them?,,,it wont be fair to the non xxxxboxxxx users if you split it evenly?
