UPDATE 8/16: Evidence Submitted to Parliament shows Andy Coulson, Rupert and James Murdock may have lied to the Committee. James may be recalled to explain before Parliament.
    UPDATE 7/7:
News of the World Ceases Publication!
UPDATE 7/15: Rebekah Brooks Resigns, Les Hinton, CEO of Dow Jones Resigns, Murdock Apologizes! FBI launches investigation of News Corp.
UPDATE 7/17: Rebekah Brooks Arrested! Metropolitan Police Commissioner Sir Paul Stephenson has resigned.
UPDATE 7/18: Deputy commissioner of London’s Metropolitan Police, John Yates, resigns. Hacking Whistleblower found dead! Labor MPs calling for Cameron to step down as Prime Minister.

    Let's hope so.

The News of The World were in big trouble recently when it was discovered they were hacking into the voice mail of high profile celebrities and politicians, and have had to fork out millions in compensation recently. Short jail terms have been served and cases are on going.

But this has just hit the headline news and it's really causing a storm. It's come to light that they were not only targeting high profile celebs but anyone who happened to be in the news, including people who have gone missing.

They intercepted the voice mail of a girl who went missing years ago and was later found murdered, looking for leads to stories they could print in their filthy newspaper.

They even deleted voicemail messages on her phone that people had left for her, desperately looking for her, in order to create space for more messages that might lead to information they could use to dig more dirt, making it look to the police as though she was still alive and giving false hope to the relatives.

Who knows what their sales were today, probably the same as yesterday. It's the newspaper for the less wise among us in British society, and well known for it's paedophile witch hunt campaign some 10 years ago where they called for all convicted paedophiles to be named and shamed and saw local people protesting on the streets in some neighbourhoods. This created an of atmosphere of vigilantism that resulted in some innocent people being wrongly targeted.

And now they have been found to have been interfering with police investigations into the disappearance of Milly Dowler, and who knows what others who may have gone missing in the past 10-15 years? They are saying on the news that the police have been in touch with the parent's of the two little girls from Soham who were raped and murdered in 2002, but didn't say anything else...

This is a very serious matter. Shit just got real with the whole viocemail hacking scandal and the government is now in a position where they have to act on one of the most powerful media organisations in the world.

What are they going to do, and what can they do?

Rupert Murdoch is not a popular man these days, not least amongst politicians.

I wonder how many of the idiots who buy this paper have decided now to boycott it as well, as surely the idea of them interfering with police investigations into the disappearance of children and potentially threatening their safety is unlikely to sit well with them.

I don't believe for a second that the NOTW had anything but the interests of Milly Dowler at heart, and her safety, and a headline story.... They did not set out to further endanger her life, but neither did they have the brain capacity to understand that they could have, and that is why they must have the full force of the law coming down on them in this instance, because clearly they are a threat to not only people's reputation, but people's lives, including children who may have been abducted.

I was hearing that the editor responsible for that rag is a close associate of your current leader. They have lunch together often. This reeks of the Roger Ailes syndrome where a media magnate has too much influence over a government, and uses their media outlets for government propaganda without admitting any influence (fair and balanced, right?)

So Murdock should be targeted and his media empire brought down for crimes against the people, invasion of privacy, spying, undue influence, and media distortion and lies.

    But yeah, dream on, right?

mcleod-ganja i hope your right on this matter.

i would love nothing more, then to see rupert murdoch raked over the coals for being the low life mad capitalist dog that he is.
i doubt that is going to happen though.

    It's not likely to happen.

Something like all of the previous umpteen governments that have been elected were supported by NOTW in the run up to the election, which says it all.

This more than anything shows us the kind of people who are running things, or trying to.

Interesting also to note that this story has been leaked during the summer, just as all the schools are going on holidays and most of the fools who buy The Sun and NOTW are on holiday in the south of france.

The more atrocities revealed, the greater the chance of the masses waking up. Fortunately, information cannot be contained indefinitely in the modern world, so I see it as simply a matter of time before people stop taking shit from bastards like Murdoch and his cronies.

Rupert Murdoch also owns MySpace now too. Does this mean they are also using it as a potential means to dig dirt on news stories?

I just love the headline for this article on the BBC news site.

Cameron promises phone hack probe... sounds kind of painful actually.

    I hope it is!

The actor Hugh Grant talks about how he helped expose the NOTW phone hacking scandal.

This is worth watching as he gets really stuck into one of the journalists from NOTW at the end.

I don't think the NOTW will be giving much coverage to his next film, unless there is tits in it or a sports celebrity with a drug habit.

So Cameron's media advisor who resigned in January due to the hacking scandal he was involved with. And now Cameron's good friend Rebeckah Brooks who was in charge of NoTW at the time of the hacking is also involved.

This tells us a number of things. First News Corp is way too close to the British gov't, just as it was way too close to the last Bush government. It also seems that Murdock devotes all his media resources to seeing that his "man" gets elected, then places key people next to the leader to "advise" them.

The recent revelations coming from the Presidential libraries of Nixon and the first Bush have revealed how Roger Ailes did the same thing in the USA.

Makes you wonder how many Americans had their phones hacked by Fox News, eh?

it's owned by his news corporation brand. so it may only be a matter of time before people start pointing fingers elsewhere within his empire.

this is really big news. he literally owns it, after all.

That is great NEWS! One less Murdock publication is a plus!

However it was only a matter of time since people read less from newspapers than ever before.

Murdock probably figures he can just sweep this whole scandal under the rug and throw it out with the NoTW.

Too bad it's already spreading as advertisers are pulling the plug on his other publications too. That's why he had to stop publication since the advertisers started to boycott NotW.

I really, really want to know if Fox News is hacking into US politicians and celebrities electronic communications. My guess is YES...

If so that revelation could bring about the end of Fox News and Murdock's empire...
