I recently changed my diet in order to make it comply w/ ital guidelines. I did this not only to further adopt the rasta lifestyle, but because eating naturally seemed like the only possible way ensure my own well being. However, I've realized that, w/ all the corporations and what not in the world today, its very difficult to ensure that what one buys in the store is truly natural and untampered with by men. Even fruit, vegetables, and other items straight from the earth seem unsafe when i think of all of the chemicals used in growing produce today. If anyone out there has any tips on how to further ensure that i am eating as naturally and ital as possible, i would greatly appreciate them. Peace & Love.
Well, it's not so much a diet. It's more just the way you eat, and goes along w/ the natural, Rasta way of life. "Ital is Vital", as it is said. Completely natural, from the earth. Almost vegan, w/ the exception of honey, occasionally. There is no milk, and table salt isn't consumed either, due to the heavy processing. Nor is tobacco, for the same reason. The whole lifestyle is as natural as possible, which is difficult to uphold living in the middle of Babylon, with all it's chemicals and "advancements" on mother nature. That's why i've asked for tips here.
i would love to grow my own if i had the land.... but i neither have that nor the know-how to grow my own
we have been trying to keep ital for the last few years and came across a few really really good ital recipes... i mean in all actuality is it taking care of your body as best you can..... but i have made some really good curry lentil soup, and we also had this spicy sweet potatoes chowder at smilefest last year, was sooooooooooo good!!
look for organic vegan foods. Since you mentioned that you are vegan, I'll not suggest finding organic fish (or catching your own), but some Rastas find that fish (usually under 12 inches) are acceptable food. Sea salt is usually okay with most Ras. Definately try to grow some of your own food, even if you can only grow one or two tomatoe plants or something. A question: Are you only concerned with an Ital diet? or does your idea of Ital encompass other parts of your lifestyle? clothes for instance? transportation? I would like to mention Ital in the sense of lifestyle choices. Some Ras (Jamaican natives mostly, but I imagine there are others) would refuse to use a telephone or ride in an automobile because it doesn't fit their defenition of Ital. Some would ride a bike and others wouldn't even do that. Babylon's machinery. White devils and all that. Always remember that Ital isn't set in stone. It varies from person to person. Some Rastas will eat fish, some still eat meat. Some are vegetarians and some are vegans or ambians. It all depends on who you ask. There is no Rasta pope to make these rules.
Ital isn't just about the diet....it is in everything that you do in life; what you wear, how you work(for yourself or others?), how you take care of your surroundings.....Nothing unnatural, nothing invloving the harming of animals...........
yes, every action you take should be measured against your beliefs. I like how you mentioned work. Your actions should be Ital. ONEness with everyone, show it through your actions. I could go on and on but I'm not a preacher Not even a preacher of RastafarI peace
Respects aya. Ital is the vitality derived from what goes in the body temple. get you roots and tubers (yucca, yam, Taro, green plantains, nam e) and the rest from any grocery store. These are not popularily consumed goods and therefore always organic. get real coconut and juice it for its milk. And then avoid flesh or meat of all kinds kosher or not. and yea palm oil used sparringly for flavor. If you want ital recipes let I know, I could help. Love and much respect fi haile sallesi I. the mighty lion of Judah.
Rasta as a whole is not uniform, never has been and never will be.... So this is the way I feel about it.... Eat healthy for you and take care of your body the way you see best, If you feel you need meats you should eat them, if they make you feel healty (and I do not think eating a whole pack of deep fried bacon will make anyone feel healthy HAHAHA)! what i meant by kosher was, some Rastas I know do not eat shellfish and pork because those things were listed in the items you should not put into your body in the bible. Take it however you want but look up Leviticus 11:1-47 and Deuteronomy 14: 3-20, and I am not saying all Rastas live by the Bible (or Ible, if you call it that) but this is where the pork and shellfish thing comes from...........
