Its hard to know if they are being serious or sarcastic, if they are warning you about something, or are unable to tell you the situation another way. If they keep crying over the years and one day they do need your help, but you are not there because its the same old saying, and now they are truly gone, how could you have helped them before if you thought you were giving your best?
depression is not an easy "fix" and sometimes things keep coming up. i know they do for me.. just got to keep working at it. and if the same thing keeps happening and the same 'cure' is applied and doesn't work again.. then something else must be tried. i don't think anyone really 'cries wolf' when it comes to depression. sometimes a tiny hurt can result is a big cry or even the other way around. sometimes the best thing to say is.. "i don't know what to say or do for you, but i am here for you." it's nice to know when i feel shitty over the same old thing, again.. that people got my back and love me anyways. this helps too >> :grouphug: a real one or an e-hug!
I think that anyone who says they have thoughts of harming themselves needs some kind if support. Killing themselves might not be what they actually mean, but it's usually some cry for help. You just don't know what a person is thinking, and if it us there intention you can't feel that you could have done anything differently.
My mom took overdoses of pills all my life. She died at 86 of natural causes. My neice (who is like a sister to me) is doing the same thing now. I don't know what to think. They gave her "shocks" today.
