Without at least getting some good facts.

Don't just research on the internet to find out "how to be a healthy vegetarian"

Your sources will be mixed, scattered, sometimes just plain wrong.

Go talk to a real nutritionalist. If you just research online "how to be a vegetarian" and "what a vegetarian eats" and then try to become one it's just not that simple

It takes some professional help, but is very possible.

Beware, you can get very sick by just trying to jump on the veggie train. It takes dedication, knowledge, will-power, training, etc

You can PM me if you have any questions

Resisting temptation is one big key. You've got to have good will-power to be a successful vegetarian. Getting enough protein and proper vitamins from fresh vegetables / pastas / salads / rices / power bars / etc etc etc

exactly why should people not search the net but rather pm YOU?

    what are your credentials?

    and what is a nutritionalist?
A nutritionist? a dietician? a health food store clerk?

There are good resources online, and communities that have great information.

Some members here measure their time as vegetarians in decades. They have good advice and a wealth of experience.

Research on plant diets is evolving and the field makes strides routinely.

So, in an effort to salvage this thread, since the title is ok,
going veg is not simple. the decision might be, but developing your set of basic meals and the pattern of eating that keeps you energized is an exercise in getting to know your body.

As a 30-year vegetarian, I would suggest having a few convenience foods during a transition. (for example, during a phase where I worked 60+ hours a week, frozen veggie burgers were a mainstay for myself and my son- however, right now, I'd rather starve than eat a veggie burger)

Keep cooked brown rice in one or two serving packets in the freezer.
Boxed vegetable broth is your friend.
    So are canned beans.

remember to eat actual vegetables. I realized one week that I had eaten only five servings of veggies all week. I'd been finishing a tray of enchiladas but the veggies were pretty light.

Be prepared to answer questions if you chose to tell anyone you are veg, or if you live with family of any sort.

It is possible to have a lovely relationship with omnivores. You must be as respectful of their choices as you want them to be of yours. (tease with caution, and take as good as you give, with humor)

Somehow, no two people in the restaurant industry can agree on what vegetarian means. You will be told about the fish special or cheese on cheese on cheese. Maybe you'll be told about the vegetarian special with chicken.

Some kitchen folks do not equate broth with meat. This is pretty typical, and requires asking servers about broth or lard (or schmaltz) before ordering.

Salads will come out with bacon.

Knowing nutritional values and the differences between refined and whole grains nutritionally is wise. Poke around web sites and books to get a good picture of what nutritional food is in real life.
I find John Robbins' books to be good if outdated.

Don't be into this for "purity" reasons. Be here for health, kindness/philosophical, ecological, humanistic or whatever reasons, but this isn't fundamentalist religion. THERE IS NO ESCAPE FROM KILLING TO EAT.
Animal products are ubiquitous in manufacturing. Your fixie bike's tires or the glues in your canvas shoes have animal by-products.
We just kill lower on the food chain.

I suspect the poster is a nutritionist trying to drum up business. Many nutritionists are poorly trained when it comes to vegetarianism. They still believe that protein deficiency is a serious risk, and that osteoporosis is caused by not drinking enough milk.

Kinda hard to be veg here in Georgia, unless you're Indian living in Gwinnett...

Most here believe in the whole

"Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils; speaking lies in hypocrisy; having their conscience seared with a hot iron; forbidding to marry, and commanding to abstain from meats, which God hath created to be received with thanksgiving of them which believe and know the truth. For every creature of God is good, and nothing to be refused, if it be received with thanksgiving: for it is sanctified by the word of God and prayer."

yeah... no plants grow in Georgia.

Buddy, I went veg at 13 in TEXAS, land of the barbecue gods, in Regan's America. (shudder)

Don't lay a location out and say that is why you can't go veg, or worse someone else can't.

It never ceases to amaze me how complicated people can make the issue of stopping meat consumption.

What you do is this: You stop eating meat.

Yes, you eat other things instead. Yes, they should be healthy things like beans, grains and vegetables. Yes, this is basic common sense. The whole vegetarian movement needs to chill the fuck out. No wonder people are put off and think we're a bunch of snooty, stuck-up, petty crazies.

i'd say it was the most simple

people who stave themselves of necessary things like protein are stupid

ironically, since protein is pretty fundamental to dna synthesis and correct brain function

i'd say we have a bit of a chicken and the egg scenario :mickey:

*EDIT* this is sarcasm. anyone who cannot blatantly comprehend it i actually think you need your head checked after all. i've added a st00pid face for your viewing pleasure
you know, 'cos sometimes we only need look at the pictures.

People who think proteins are only found in meat are very stupid indeed, as are people who can barely form sentences.

I must say, that since becoming a vegetarian I have gone through periods of feeling run down and tired.

However, if I make sure to get enough protein and iron, I feel better than I ever did when I ate meat.
