my husband recently started his dreads. we tried once before and i spent about 4 or 5 hours back combing and trying to get it to dread that way. we left it like that for about 2 weeks until we both became very frustrated with it and i somehow was able to comb it out and salvage his hair. About a month ago he decided to try it again by just not combing his hair anymore, it is moderately matting in the back as it should be but the sides are still not starting in comparison to how far the back is coming along. So Im wondering if anyone has any tips on what i can do to start the sides and if there is anything i should be doing to the back of it, i.e rolling it, separating it, applying any kind of hair products stufff like that. any advice would be great! oh and he has semi-curly hair that is just above the shoulder in length.
The Sides And The Top Of The Head Are The Last To Lock. The Reason The Sides Take So Long Is At Night They Rub On Your Cheeks And Pickup Oil Off Your Skin, This Slows Down The Locking Process.... All I Can Suggest Is To Do What I Have Been Doing And That Is I Wash My Face With An Anti Zit Facewash Just Before Bed, That Way The Skin Is Oil Free For A Few Hours... Cheers Glen.
What Glen said. Also, you shouldnt have to do much of anything with products or back combing, esp if he's got curly hair. Give it time, be patient. It'll happen all on it's own eventually, just remember to keep it clean.
