I know it's a sleeping pill but for me in lower doses I just get this mellow like feeling not really a high but feels good none the less. I was wondering if anyone has ever took melatonin with any other drug and what are the effects? (Good, bad, or whatever) Also for me when I take melatonin to sleep I dream a lot less so maybe this fact has some kind of correlation with other drugs...?

Melatonin is usually an herbal supplement, Melatonin is actually a chemical already in our brain that releases at nighttime and puts you to sleep. I took some Melatonin supplements for a while and they did help me sleep. There is really no abuse potential unless you consider being naturally tired being messed up. I wouldn't take Melatonin pills on a nightly basis, I've heard it can mess up when and how your body naturally releases the chemical, in turn messing up your sleeping habits or simply make it harder to get to sleep.

yeah, melatonin is a hormone in your mind created by a small gland in your brain. this gland creates it when the eyes detect zero light and said gland shuts off when light is detected. 5mg is a good dose to help you sleep.

they also put melatonin in those lazy cakes, along with valerian root and something else. lazy cakes are for shit unless you are an insomniac.

    i prefer ambien

Melatonin is a hormone produced by the pineal gland that signals the brain to begin its shut-down process, eventually ending in sleep. It doesn't have any recreational value other than the obvious relief of insomnia which would be very pleasant in such people.

One thing to note is that it is active at much lower doses than are sold. You really only need 1mg at most of the substance in order to fully saturate the Melatonin receptors in the brain. So, save your money and don't buy the 5mg tablets.

As for dreaming, it doesn't alter REM like the benzodiazepines and other GABA-A allosteric modulators do.

I just perused a few of my psychopharmacology texts, and they all point out that it is not as effective as the benzos and GABA-A agents, but is a useful supplement for those people who have only mild insomnia and jet-lag insomnia. Simply sitting in a dark room will produce just as much melatonin as any pill would (it is synthesized from serotonin). Also, the drug Ramelton (sp?) is a melatonin-receptor-agonist which is slightly more potent than the melatonin supplements, but it is Prescription-only (however, not scheduled, as there is no abuse potential).

    melatonine is just meh.
tried it few times and well, haven't got any kind of high (NOT EVEN SLEPT), just slightly stoned.
if you wanna sleep and/or fell kinda high try first with a lot of zirtec (or anything against hay fever ETC.) THEN GO FOR VALIUM/VALPINAX etc...

    cheers :)
