Oh, isn't this a wonderful forum... someone comes on and reaches out, and everyone makes fun of them.

Glad I wasn't the new kid at your school, is all I can say.

Not since it lost its sense of humour, apparently...

Think of it from the point of view of being the OP making a valid post and just getting a bunch of assholes trying to be funny.

Its not humour, it comes across more as an in-crowd picking on an outsider. Like I said, there's a new kid in school, lets put him down.

Humour is the best way of making friends. Nobody on here is going to want to 'hang out' with a stranger without getting to know them a bit first, and the way to get to know people is to join in and find shared interests, in this case a few people demonstrated a sense of humour, something lots of people share and something that's a great starting point for making friends.

I think this kind of humour is very welcoming, about as much as any forum post could be, people joshing each other affectionately, something that gives the OP an opportunity to join in and maybe make some friends. Far more likely that than 'hey I live near you too so let's hang out' ,which never will, or probably should, happen...

These things shouldn't really need to be explained

I can't believe you actually explained it  If Frankenstein didn't understand all that naturally I don't think there's much hope of getting through. Sorry Frankie, your total lack of understanding about lightheartedness and harmless fun is a bit depressing.

lithium, you made a foul play. That's minus two plays and a Tony Wilson backlash for you.

Well, perhaps that really is how you see it... "we was only having a bit of fun" - the defence of school bullies everywhere - oh dearie me.

Whatever you say you meant, that's how it comes across, and it seems to be becoming the norm in the UK forum.

Well, yes they should. Is this an official position ? Some rule or law we should all be abiding by ? Who decided ? When ?

Everything should be questioned. All the time.

Followed by a negative rep from Lithium.

Well, they do say freedom of speech comes with a price, and I guess a few neg reps is far less than many people have to pay. I do find it kind of sad, though, when a free speech forum seems to become anything but, and any dissenting view gets neg repped.

And if anything, it just goes to prove my original point.Perhaps by raising it I held a mirror up to certain people and they didn't like what they saw reflected back. I guess I could understand that.

As for those negs - I've retaliated... by giving positives in return. I'm evil. I really am...

You're free to crusade against good natured humour, but others are also free to point out how impossibly silly this is...

I tend to give good rep to interesting, humorous, insightful and useful posts, and negative rep to boring, humorless and petty ones. Freedom to vote, I guess. Not that it actually matters that much.
